The silence between them was deafening. Gavi felt a knot of anxiety tighten in his stomach. He had been sending message after message, each one a desperate plea for understanding, for a response, for anything. But Pedri remained silent, his absence a heavy weight on Gavi's heart.
He couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. He knew Pedri well enough to recognize the subtle shift in his demeanor, the way his usual bright eyes now held a dull ache. Gavi felt a pang of guilt, a prickling of fear. He had hurt Pedri, he knew that, but he hadn't intended to cause this much pain.
He needed to understand. He needed to know what was going on.
He decided to investigate.
He started with the obvious - the training ground. He watched Pedri from a distance, observing his every move. Pedri seemed lost in his own world, his movements sluggish, his focus lacking. He was usually the most energetic one on the field, a whirlwind of skill and passion. Now, he looked like a shadow of his former self.
Later, he tried to approach him, but Pedri brushed past him, a silent rejection that stung. Gavi felt a wave of frustration wash over him. He didn't understand why Pedri was being so distant, why he wouldn't even talk to him.
He decided to try a different approach. He sought out Ansu Fati, Pedri's closest friend on the team.
"Ansu," he said, his voice hesitant. "Have you noticed anything different about Pedri lately?"
Ansu looked at him, his expression unreadable. "He's been quiet," he said, his voice low. "He's been withdrawn."
"Do you know why?" Gavi pressed, his anxiety growing.
Ansu shook his head. "I've tried talking to him," he said. "But he won't open up."
Gavi felt a wave of despair. He was running out of options. He was starting to feel hopeless.
He decided to try one last thing. He went to Pedri's apartment, a small, cozy place that he had visited a few times before. He knocked on the door, his heart pounding in his chest.
Pedri opened the door, his eyes red and puffy, his face etched with exhaustion. He looked at Gavi with a mix of anger and disappointment.
"What are you doing here?" he asked, his voice strained.
"I just wanted to talk," Gavi said, his voice pleading. "I'm sorry, Pedri. I didn't mean to hurt you."
Pedri scoffed. "Sorry doesn't fix anything, Gavi," he said, his voice laced with bitterness. "You think saying sorry will make everything alright? You think that's enough?"
Gavi felt a wave of frustration wash over him. "I don't know what else to do," he said. "I just want to understand. I want to know what's going on."
Pedri's eyes narrowed. "You don't get to just waltz in here and demand answers," he said, his voice rising. "You've hurt me, Gavi. You've broken my trust. And now you have the audacity to show up at my doorstep and act like you have the right to know everything?"
Gavi felt his heart sink. He knew he had messed up, but he hadn't meant to cause this much pain. He just wanted to fix things, to make things right.
"I'm not trying to demand anything," he said, his voice pleading. "I just want to understand. I want to know how I can make things better."
Pedri shook his head. "You can't make things better," he said, his voice cold. "Not now. Not after what you've done."
He stepped aside, gesturing for Gavi to leave. "Go away, Gavi," he said. "I need some space."
Gavi felt a surge of anger mixed with despair. He didn't understand why Pedri was being so cruel. He had apologized, he had tried to explain himself, but Pedri was pushing him away.
"I'm not going anywhere until you tell me what's wrong," Gavi said, his voice firm. "I'm not leaving until you talk to me."
Pedri's eyes flashed with anger. "You don't get to decide that," he said, his voice laced with venom. "This is my home, Gavi. And I'm asking you to leave."
He stepped forward, his eyes locked on Gavi's. "Get out," he said, his voice low and dangerous. "Or I'll have to make you."
Gavi felt a wave of fear wash over him. He had never seen Pedri this angry before. He knew he was in over his head. He knew he had to back down.
He took a step back, his heart pounding in his chest. "Fine," he said, his voice barely a whisper. "I'll go. But please, Pedri, talk to me. I'm not going to give up on us."
He turned and walked away, his heart heavy with sadness and disappointment. He had tried to reach out, to make things right, but Pedri had shut him out. He felt a sense of despair, a feeling of hopelessness. He didn't know what to do, where to turn.
He had hurt Pedri, he knew that. But he had also loved him, and he wasn't ready to give up on them. He knew that he had to give Pedri space, time to heal, but he wasn't going to let him disappear from his life. He would wait, he would be patient, and he would be there for him when he was ready.
