Selma wasnt being dramatic when she sat at her brothers bedside sobbing her eyes out begging not to leave to the capital. Bran was her baby brother, she didnt understand how sansa so ready to leave home, leave their mother, leave their brothers, for a place that was foreign to them.
"You ready selma?" Ned questioned
Selma shook her head slowly. She wouldn't- couldn't leave. Not before all this and certainly not now.
"I know its hard. I dont want to do this either-"
"Then tell the king no." Selma demanded
"One doesnt just tell the king no." Ned countered.
"I would." She whispered as rickon ran up hugging her legs.
"Dont do selma. Dont go." Rickon begged
"Father please!" Selma held tight to rickon like a life line.
"Im sorry. The queen has already chosen you for her son." Ned countered. "And the king is eager to leave."
Selma packed the rest of her belongings up slowly. She knew she would be coming back. She could convince her father this was stupid and she needed to marry jon. Absence would make the heart grown fonder and selma would grown into a very mature woman. Jon wouldnt see her as a child but a woman to be admired.
"Im going to miss you kiddo." Robb said against selmas cheek. He kissed her cheek before pulling away. She smiled sadly up at him
"Take care of rickon and bran for me." She requested. Being the eldest daughter she was very nurturing. She was very dramatic according to her siblings and parents- she didnt see it. And selma had a big heart.
"Of course." Robb agreed. She hugged him again
"Love you robbie."
"Love you Drama."
She hugged theon quickly before clinging to rickon. She couldn't possibly say goodbye to jon.
"Selma you are planning to leave without saying goodbye?" Jon questioned
"Never." Selma assured "i was just hoping you would join us."
"Im going to the wall." Jon corrected
"What ever for?"
"To join the-"
"No!"
"-nights watchman."
"JON!"
"Selma i wanted to tell you sooner but-"
"You cant possibly go to the wall! You cant take those stupid vows and never marry or love me-" her words failed her. Jon held her. "You cant go." She whimpered.
"Im so sorry but you will be at the capital. With a new life. New friends. New... husband-"
"And no you!" Selma demanded in outrage. "I cant believe you are doing this to me!"
"Im not doing anything to you-"
"Thats the problem! I want you near so you go to the opposite ends of the earth!" Selma sobbed out holding tighter to jon. "It will be the end of us."
"We are always going to be family."
But they wouldnt be anything more. Especially not when jon took his vows and selma married joffrey.
"I love you Selma."
"Then dont go."
"You are leaving to-"
"Then i wont go." She decided
"You have to and there is no place for me here without you." Jon added kissing her temple.
"You are a stark." Selma countered.
"I love you. Im sorry."
"I love you. Im not sorry. I will never be sorry for loving you Jon Stark of winterfell."
Selma felt an odd sense of vertigo like she was standing at the edge of a great precipice and looking down into a vast nothingness as she rode away from Jon. He smiled back at her before turning his horse around. She prayed he would turn around again. Look at her. Come after her. Tell her he wanted her too. But when he looked back at her he only waved goodbye before he gone for good.
