They set up camp for the night after talking with the free folk. Selma wanted nothing more than to wrap herself up in jon but he was talking to tormund and davos still.

"Stop staring." Sansa drawled

"I can stare if i want." Selma countered stubbornly

"I never understood your fascination with him."

"Hes a good man- a commander. Father would be proud of him-" selma demanded.

"You are a fool Selma. He will never be anything more than a bastard-"

"Shut your mouth sansa." Selma demanded. "He might as well be king of the north."

"He does not get to be king." Sansa demanded

"Why are you still so awful to him?" Selma demanded. "Hes the sweetest man alive. He took us in and protected us still and yet... you treat him like scum on your shoes. I thought you wanted to try to be a better person. What happened to apologizing?"

"Shut up selma. Im just thinking realistically-"

"You are turning into cersei only thinking of herself and her goals. Not others." Selma corrected getting up

"Where are you going?"

"To sleep beside jon. I cant stand your company." Selma grumbled.

Jon was worried when selma found him. He immediately thought she was hurt or someone had crossed a line but it was sansa that soured her mood.  Jon held her that night. As much as she wished for a proper bed to properly show how much she missed him she was so tired from the journey and her monthly tidings had arrived so she fell asleep quickly in his arms.

When the morning sun rose jon was awake but he refused to let go of her. Selmas smile grew as his lips descended upon hers.

"Morning." He whispered lips grazing her skin

"Morning." She echoed closing the distance. "I cant wait to get back..." he had a feeling he knew why.

" Lady Mormont."

" Welcome to Bear Island." Lyanna Mormont answered

" I remember when you were born, my lady. You were named for my Aunt Lyanna. It was said she was a great beauty. I'm sure you will be, too." Sansa recalled

" I doubt it. My mother wasn't a great beauty or any other kind of beauty." Lyanna remarked and selma chuckled. She liked the blunt little girl. Honest too which was refreshing. "She was a great warrior, though. She died fighting for your brother, Robb." Lyanna countered

"I served under your uncle at Castle Black, Lady Lyanna. He was also a great warrior and an honorable man. I was his steward. In fact- -" jon was quickly cut off however.

"I think we've had enough small talk. Why are you here?"  Lyanna demanded

"Stannis Baratheon garrisoned at Castle Black before he marched on Winterfell and was killed. He showed me the letter you wrote to him when he petitioned for men. It said- -" Jon began but Lyanna spoke up again.

"I remember what it said. Bear Island knows no king but the King in the North whose name is Stark."" Lyanna told them. Selma liked that. King in the north. Her brother robb. She was both glad and sad at the memory she remembered hearing robbs name at court. How they all were scared of the wolf king that had won every battle... until he lost the war.

"Robb is gone, but House Stark is not. And it needs your support now more than ever. I've come with my sisters to ask for House Mormont's allegiance." Jon agreed she leaned towards her maester.

"As far as I understand, you're a Snow and Lady Sansa is a Bolton. Lady Selma is a Lannister..." jons eyes went wide looking to selma. She shrugged. Yeah she married tyrion big whoop. The little man didnt touch her and never would. She was saving herself for jon.

"I did what I had to do to survive, my lady. But I am a Stark. I will always be a Stark." Sansa assured

"And I pray you are never forced to marry against your will my lady." Selma added. "But as women we are made to do things that do not please us im sure you are beginning to see. My loyalty has always been stark."

" If you say so. In any case, you don't just want my allegiance. You want my fighting men."

" Ramsay Bolton cannot be allowed to keep Winterfell, my lady. It is our duty to stop him. Even more so because he holds our brother Rickon Stark as prisoner." Jon informed her,  "What you have to understand, my lady, is that- -"

"I understand that I'm responsible for Bear Island and all who live here. So why should I sacrifice one more Mormont life for someone else's war?" Lyanna countered. Davos stepped forward as the starks fell silent.

"If it please, my lady, I understand how you feel." Davos said clearing his throat

"I don't know you, Ser...?"

"Davos, my lady, of House Seaworth." He answered, she turned to her maester but he kept going. " You needn't ask your maester about my house. It's rather new." she settled back into her chair.

"All right, Ser Davos of House Seaworth. How is it you understand how I feel?" Lyanna agreed.

"She likes to interrupt." Selma whispered but jon hushed her

"We need her."

"You never thought you'd find yourself in your position. Being responsible for so many lives at such a young age. I never thought I'd be in my position. I was a crabber's son, then I was a smuggler. And now I found myself addressing the lady of a great house in time of war. But I'm here because this isn't someone else's war. It's our war". Davos told her.

"Go on, Ser Davos."

"Where did you find him again?" Selma whispered

"When stannis came to the wall." Jon answered

"And you trust him?"

"I do." Jon confirmed. That was good enough for selma.

" Your uncle, Lord Commander Mormont, made that man his steward." Davos informed her.  "He chose Jon to be his successor because he knew had the courage to do what was right, even if it meant giving his life. Because Jeor Mormont and Jon Snow both understood that the real war isn't between a few squabbling houses. It's between the living and the dead. And make no mistake, my lady, the dead are coming."

"Is this true?" Lyanna demanded, Jon nodded

"Your uncle fought them at the Fist of the First Men. I fought them at Hardhome. We both lost." Jon agreed

Wow first time she let jon get his full sentence out. Selma wanted to applaud -she didnt.

"As long as the Boltons hold Winterfell, the North is divided. And a divided North won't stand a chance against the Night King. You want to protect your people, my lady. I understand. But there's no hiding from this. We have to fight and we need to do it together." Davos begged lyanna's maester once again tried to consult her but she waved her maester off

" House Mormont has kept faith with House Stark for 1,000 years. We will not break faith today." Lyanna assured

"Wonderful! Amazing! Glad to hear it." Selma agreed. "Team Starkmont for the win!"

"Thank you, my lady. How many fighting men can we expect?" Jon requested

"62." she decided after consulting her commander.

"62?" Jon thought he hadnt heard her right

" We are not a large house, but we're a proud one. And every man from Bear Island fights with the strength of 10 mainlanders." Lyanna assured

"If they're half as ferocious as their lady, the Boltons are doomed." Davos agreed

"62 more than we had before we came." Selma offered.
