Jisoo was in the kitchen, fixing up the salad to go along with the other food she made for her baby shower.
Bohyun had finished the work early, returned to the States and immediately planned their baby shower. Excited for a child, he sent out letters and opened their registry, wanting to know what he needed for his baby.
Jisoo couldn't lie, he had been a great help. He took time off of work to help the brunette, holding her hair up during her morning sickness, and putting up with her mood swings and even her disgusting cravings.
Licking her fingers clean from the dressing she was mixing, Jisoo picked up the salad bowl and made her way back into the living room where Lisa and Seulgi were, putting it on the table with the rest of the snacks and food.
Lisa was blowing up an extra balloon for her daughter and Seulgi's children whilst Seulgi helped Bohyun with the rest of the decorations that weren't placed right or were falling.
Jisoo's friends, family and Bohyun's family would soon arrive so she wanted the party to be perfect.
Bohyun's eyes caught his fiancé's and his smile widened. He finished putting up the banner and made his way to Jisoo, resting a hand on her bump and pressing a kiss to her lips which she just giggled at.
Bohyun was amazing and Jisoo knew this was the right choice. He could give her so much more with little worry. Besides, logically, Jisoo made the wise decision of picking the person she had already planned forever with rather than someone she would have to restart on for the stupid reason of love.
"Hey, Bohyun!" Lisa called, clueless to Jisoo's mess. In fact, apart from Seungwan and Jennie, the rest of her friends were oblivious to the adultery. "Are you hoping for a girl or a boy?"
Jisoo watched as the perfect man shrugged. It was almost... almost boring. "I just want our first baby to be healthy." Lisa laughed, giving him a thumbs-up whilst Jisoo sort of moved away.
Bohyun was amazing but he was just average.
"Aunty Soo, can you have a girl?" Maya asked, playing with her balloon. It wasn't long before Ewan gently shoved the little girl, shaking his head.
"Have a boy!" He exclaimed, eyebrows furrowed at Maya who just pouted.
"Nuh-uh," Maya said, hand on her hip.
"Yuh-uh," Ewan replied, mockingly.
Before Maya could say something back, Lisa whacked the two kids on the head, showing them her serious face.
"Guys, what did me and your mommy say about arguing?" She asked, referring to the fight they had earlier over who was taller and who was better suited to be a t-rex. The fight that both Seulgi and Lisa had to de-escalate.
"To not fight and to get along..." Both children said, heads facing down. Lisa nodded at them, ushering them both to go off and play somewhere nicely.
Jisoo and Bohyun could only stand there and laugh, shaking their heads at Lisa who sighed. "You'd think that being similar ages meant that they'd get along."
"Oh, leave them be, Lisa," Said Seulgi, finishing the decoration and sitting beside Lisa on the couch. "They're just kids." She rested her arms on Lisa's legs, looking at Bohyun. "Hyun, could you be a dear and get me a drink?"
He saluted, rushing off to the kitchen.
Jisoo took the initiative and joined her friends, sitting on the single couch beside them.
The doorbell rang and before Jisoo could get up and answer it, Bohyun had handed Seulgi a glass of pop and rushed towards the door. Again, he was just perfect.
He opened the door, being greeted by Sooyoung, Roseanne and the little one in their household. Bohyun smiled at them, opening the door wider so the small stroller could fit through the door.
Maya rushed from the floor to the door, followed by Ewan to see the little boy who was just as excited to see the older ones.
Roseanne laughed. "Let me take him out for you guys, okay?" She smiled, listening to all the questions Maya and Ewan had to ask and answering each and everyone with sufficient detail.
And Jisoo watched, her heart aching.
There were things she missed— things she adored about the blonde that Bohyun lacked. Maybe it was because Jisoo knew she had been a mother, but whatever it was made Roseanne glow exceptionally bright.
Sooyoung joined the few on the couch after placing hers and Roseanne's gifts on the table. She laughed at her sister, smiling lovingly at Jina who was busy sucking her fist.
"Nice party, Soo," She said, forcing Jisoo to look away from the three who now sat on the carpet, playing and laughing like children.
"Thank you."
Her eyes went back to the three on the carpet, tuning out the chattering happening beside her. Bohyun had disappeared into the kitchen and Jisoo didn't care, she didn't assume what he was doing nor did it bother her.
Roseanne had her nephew on her lap, letting Maya and Ewan talk and play with him. She laughed at them, still talking to them. It truly bothered her that it wasn't her there with Roseanne, it wasn't her baby and it wasn't their lives.
Roseanne's eyes met Jisoo's.
And both their hearts shattered.
The party was getting lively. Jennie had arrived with cake and Nayeon arrived with a few bottles of champagne that she and her friends were currently downing.
The music was turned up and people were complimenting Jisoo's dishes left and right. It was intense and the brunette found herself in the kitchen, humming along to the music as she washed the empty dishes left on the table.
There was a knock on the kitchen door and Jisoo turned her head, only to be met with soft eyes and a gentle smile.
"Hey," Roseanne said, letting herself into the kitchen and shutting the door behind her. "I was looking for you."
Jisoo turned the faucet. She wiped her hands on the towel and merely turned her body towards the blonde, noticing that she was fidgeting with something behind her back.
There was an awkward silence that fell over them.
Roseanne cleared her throat, bobbing up and down on her feet. "Well... I bought a few gifts from your registry but there was something that I had seen when Sooyoung was pregnant and I missed the opportunity to get it for her."
Jisoo's eyebrows quirked.
"Uhm— I just— well, here," Roseanne said a little flustered, her eyes still unable to meet Jisoo's as she handed her a long velvet box.
The brunette took it in her hands, looking at Roseanne with a little confusion before deciding to open it. She blinked a little, hands coming to trace what was on the box.
"I wanted to give this to you personally, but with everything going on, I didn't know when would be the right time. But we are still friends, right? So, I thought now was the perfect time."
There was a large bracelet, one that looked like it would fit Jisoo's wrists with the words 'Mommy Kim' written on it. And just in front of the bracelet was a much smaller one, written 'Baby Kim.'
And that's when it hit Jisoo.
She picked Bohyun. This was their child.
Her eyes met Roseanne's with realisation.
If she had made the right choice, why did it feel so wrong?
