Duncan’s POV
We had given up on chasing Rythian and were in science. Mr Ridge was halfway through the lesson when Rythian and Zoey walked in.
“Finally decided to join us Rythian?” Rythian grunted and sat down with Zoey; he started talking to her. His eyes were glowing. “Rythian that is no way to act.”
“Shut up, I’m talking to Zoey here.” That was it, Mr Ridge wasn’t happy now.
“Even this is too far.” Sjin said to Sips.
“Did I ask for your opinion?” Rythian shouted at Sjin. Sjin backed away. “Well, did I?” Sjin shook his head.
“Rythian you are going too far!” Mr Ridge walked down and went to grab his arm but Rythian glared at him. He was stuck to the board almost instantly. “Rythian let me down.”
“Nope.” He grabbed Zoey and went to walk out. I grabbed Zoey.
“That’s enough Rythian.” He looked at me. “You shouldn’t treat people like this. I don’t think any of us like the new you. Where is the old Rythian?” I looked into his glowing, purple eyes and saw nothing but hatred.
“Who are you to say what I can and can’t do?” He glowered at me and I felt a crippling pain in my back, I fell to the floor. Rythian laughed, Zoey looked at me in horror, Sips and Sjin looked in silence, and Lewis ran to help.
“Rythian, why did you do that?” Zoey leant down next to Lewis. “Rythian, stop it now. Please.” He stopped. It felt like something was lifted from my back. I breathed and grabbed Zoey.
“Zoey, please don’t go with him... please.” She looked at me; tears filling her eyes.
“I have to, I’m sorry.” She kissed my forehead, making Rythian growl, then got up and walked away with him. Mr Ridge fell from the board and hit the floor. I looked at the doorway for the rest of the lesson; she didn’t come back.
“Come on Duncan. We have art.” Lewis tried to get me out of the seat. “Duncan, I know how hard this must be for you, but you have to get up.” I slowly rose and he led me out of the room and to the nurse’s office. He talked to the nurse and I was sent home. My new foster home, my new parents, and my new family. I walked through the door.
“Hello! I’m your new mum!” She squealed.
“Ok... Can I go to my room? I don’t feel too well.” I went to walk up the stairs.
“No. No. No. No. You haven’t met your dad! I’m going to make you some chicken soup!” Her voice was annoyingly high and squeaky. I saw a man come from the room to my right. He was my foster dad, a slim man with glasses and a gaming top on.
“Hello... son.” I winced at that word. He wasn’t my dad or mum, what gave him the right to call me that.
“Hi, can I go to my room now? I feel sick.” He nodded. I walked upstairs there were four rooms. A bathroom, their room, a study and my room. I walked into my room and it was filled with the things, that hadn’t broken, from my other room at the old house. I sighed; this was going to be annoying. She barged in with a tray in her hand. I moaned loudly.
“I have your soup!” She put it on the bedside table. “I’m Mona, but you can call me Mum.” Her voice was extremely annoying, I just wanted to curl up under my covers and block out the whole world. “I’ll check on you later!” I heard her skip like steps down the stairs.
“Thank god she’s gone.” I whispered. I fell asleep, ignoring the whole world. I woke up and saw Lewis at my side.
“Are you ok?” I nodded still half asleep. “I can’t believe Rythian would do that.” He looked around. “This place isn’t that bad is it?”
“It’s Mona.” He looked at me. “My so called mum. Her voice is just extremely annoying. I’m going to go crazy.” He laughed lightly. “Seriously Lewis, I’m going to lose it.”
“Well, be careful no matter what. Please. I would hate to lose my best friend. I have to go; I’ll bring you something later or tomorrow.” He hugged me and left. I smiled; it was good having a best friend. He came in.
“Your mother told me to come in. It’s Brent by the way, you don’t have to call me dad. I’m not your real one.”
“She isn’t my mother. She’s Mona.” He smiled.
“I never got the chance to ask; what do you like to do in your spare time?”
“Science.”
“How about I take you to the science museum this Saturday?” I looked at him and shook my head. “It’ll be fun!”
“No, I’m meeting Lewis.” He cooed. “He’s not my boyfriend or girlfriend! Don’t dare coo at me!” He walked out muttering. I began to mess with my chemicals and jars of things. I worked through the night and all across the next weekend. Lewis visited occasionally bringing food I actually liked.
“Duncan? Don’t you think you’ve done enough science?”
“No, I will have done enough when I find something to stop Rythian and get Zoey back.”
“Duncan you’ve been here for a week. You know this, right?”
“I didn’t, but that’s the price to pay for science.” He sighed and walked to the door.
“You better be careful. Some things aren’t meant to be.” He walked out. I sighed and carried on with what I was doing; making a solution to stop Rythian.
