Duncan’s POV
I dragged Rythian’s limp body into the cage in my room. He had blacked out in school, I had been punching him after all. I had found my scalpel before and was ready to cut into him; into his magical skin. He began to stir, his black hair moving and showing the blonde streak. He never really did his hair, he didn’t need to. He probably just uses magic. I need that magic. I need his powers. He woke up instantly, hitting his head off the bars.
“What?” He saw me. He tried to reach me through the bars. “Duncan of course it would be you, you twat!”
“Well I’m a scientist. You should already know this.” I smiled at his angry face. He growled. “Growling again are we?” I laughed as he growled again.
“You better let me out. It would be safer for everyone in this house.”
“Nice try, but no.” I watched as he glowed purple. “What are you doing?”
“Leaving!” He glowed brighter now. Then started muttering. The bars started to bend and creak, they opened enough for him to walk out. I ran. Behind me I could hear Rythian making a mess in my room. Banging and crashing filled the air. I ran. Then I heard a scream, it must have been my dad. What have I done? I ran outside. He warned me, he warned me and I ignored him. “You will pay!” I heard him shout behind me. I ran further. I ran to Lewis.
“Lewis! Lewis! Let me in!” I banged on the door until someone answered it. I fell through the door, landing at Lewis’ feet.
“What’s wrong Duncan?”
“Rythian... We’re all in danger... help!” I breathed deeply, trying to catch my breath. Lewis helped me up and into his room, where his mum and dad wouldn’t hear.
“Say that again. But slowly.” I breathed in deeply and began; I told the whole thing to Lewis. “What did you do?”
“I made an enemy.” I looked into my lap, and started playing with my hands.
“Duncan, why?”
“I needed the magic; I wanted the magic.” Lewis got up and started pacing while I sat on the bed. “That magic. We could have done so much with it!”
“I don’t care! You’re going to kill us all!” I started to silently cry. “Duncan... I’m sorry.” He hugged me, and I felt safer in his arms for some reason.
“Thank you Lewis.” I hugged him back as I let the tears flow again. We sat on the bed as I heard Rythian run past outside.
“It’s ok Duncan, it’s ok.” He squeezed me.
“Ok, I have to go.” I sniffled and got up. I walked outside and was grabbed by Rythian. “Shit! Lewis! Lewis help!” I tried to break free but couldn’t in his iron grip.
“You’re coming with me. Dragon bait.” He grinned at me and we headed for somewhere. I had no idea. There are no dragons here. Why would I be dragon bait? “I’m looking for the End portal. Do you know where one may be?” I shook my head. “You better not be lying to me!”
“I’m not, honest! I wouldn’t!” He glared at me questioningly. “Really!” He carried on walking, dragging me behind him. He had me by my collar. “Rythian! Where are we going?”
“To the end! Didn’t you hear me?” He dragged me down a tunnel and into a large area. “This is the place. The place where we will find the portal!”
“You’re crazy!” He grinned at me again. They he dragged me to a large area that had a horizontal portal in it. It was still broken, Rythian added the missing pieces. The portal flickered into life.
“And away we go!” He grabbed me and threw me into the black stuff. I floated in darkness for a while. Then landed on the pale stone. “We’re here, look!” He pointed to the large best flying around. It was Zoey’s Ender Dragon, I can’t believe what had just happened.
“This place is real! Zoey wasn’t lying.”
“You thought she was lying!” Rythian grabbed me and stopped me from running. “You can wait up there.” He levitated me up to the top of the largest obsidian pillar. I saw the dragon come near me then a few arrows hitting her pelt.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m killing the dragon!” I stared at him, ignoring the fact that there was a dragon nearby.
“Are you crazy?”
“No, I’m brave.” I watched as Rythian made the dragon come to him, then slashed its neck open and barely making a scratch on it. “She’s beautiful.” She came down to him one more time. He stabbed her in the chest sending her to the floor nearby. “Thank you.” He pulled out her heart the source to a dragon’s power, even I knew this. He took the heart and placed it in a bag, then took me from the pillar and through the other end portal. We landed outside the school grounds.
“What’s wrong with you?” I pushed his arm. He got up, leaving me on the floor. “Is that it, you just leave now!”
“Yes!” He walked away. “I’m going to see Zoey!” I watched as he walked away. He was crazy, and going for my Zoey. I followed him slowly.
“Zoey? Are you here?” He knocked on the door. “Zoey?” She opened the door to him, and hugged him. “I did it.”
“The Ender Dragon?” He nodded. “I’m glad that you’re back safe and sound.” She kissed him and my heart shattered. I walked away feeling angry and alone. I had no home, Rythian had destroyed it. I walked to Lewis’ and knocked on the door. Lewis opened it and I just broke down, he took me in.
