Duncan’s POV

I had been starving myself because I wasn’t needed here anymore. I only had Lewis now, my friend who supported me through everything. My stupid foster parents were oblivious to what I was doing. They thought I was fine. No one knew what I was doing, not even Lewis. I would wake from my slumber and have to go to school with the people I hated. I’m surprised I can even stand up any longer. I walked to school weakly.

“Hi Duncan. You look pale, are you ok?”

“I’m fine.” I nearly fell over. He grabbed me just in time.

“Are you sure you’re ok?” I nodded and carried on walking. He worried about me, but he’s my friend and I know he would. We walked into science and I blanked out the whole way through the lesson, ignoring everything. I saw Lewis glancing at me every so often, checking on me. The lesson ended and I got up. “Duncan, you can tell me if anything’s wrong.”

“I know. But there is nothing wrong.” I put on a fake smile and collected my stuff.

“Remember class, homework on my desk tomorrow.” Mr Ridge shouted. I walked out and to my locker. The amount of food that was in the locker was horrible. I grabbed it all and threw it in a nearby bin; I didn’t need it anymore. Sips and Sjin were laughing as they passed.

“Hey Duncan, how’s the diet going?” Sjin laughed at Sips. I ignored him. “Hey, don’t ignore me.” I grabbed a bar from my locker. I turned to face Sips. “I said, how’s the diet?” I swung at Sips with the bar, hitting him in his head. He fell. I continued to hit him. He began to bleed from his head and he stopped moving. Lewis dragged me away from him as Sjin went to check on his best friend.

“Duncan, what are you doing? You fucking psychopath!” Sjin was crying. “You’re a fucking mentalist!” I looked at Sips as Lewis dragged me away.

“Duncan, you just attacked Sips. He could be seriously injured...” Lewis tried talking to me, but his voice faded out. All I could hear was a weird growling noise. I tried to hear Lewis, but the growling filled my head. I heard Rythian.

“You will die, I’m coming for you! You will pay for this.” Rythian’s voice whirled around in my head. “Watch out Duncan, I’m coming.” I blinked back into life. Lewis was looking at me, expecting an answer for something.

“Duncan, were you listening?” I shook my head. “Follow me quickly.” He dragged me through the corridors, avoiding all the teachers. “Duncan, they will come. Eventually they will come.” I looked at him.

“What?” I looked at his face; it was full of panic and worry.

“The teachers will find you. You did just beat Sips with a metal bar. You have to hide somewhere, please.” I heard someone coming. Lewis looked down the hallway. “What is it?” I pointed down the hallway and he looked. I saw Rythian turn the corner.

“No! No!” I panicked and tried to run. Lewis looked at me the confusion on his face. I fell over and carried on scrabbling across the floor. Someone grabbed me, I tried to break free.

“Duncan, Duncan calm down. There’s no one and nothing there.” I relaxed a little. “Are you definitely ok?”

“I don’t know anymore.” I curled up and sat in-between the lockers. “Lewis, I don’t know.” He sat down next to me and wrapped his arm around me. I cried into his chest.

“Duncan, come with me.” I looked up to see Miss Rutherford glaring down at us. I got up and left Lewis. I walked along the hallways with her, everyone staring as we walked past. I was led into her office. Sjin was sat on a chair. I looked at him; his face was soaked in tears.

“Sjin, I’m sorry.” He ignored me. I sat on the chair next to him.

“Duncan, do you realise what you have done? You have seriously injured a member of this school. Sips is in the hospital with a serious head injury.” I looked at the floor.

“I’m sorry; I don’t know what came over me.” I heard Sjin snigger.

“You know what Duncan, fuck you! You did this on purpose; you knew what you were doing!” He ran out.

“You will be punished for this. You know that don’t you?” Miss Rutherford said. I nodded. “The police will be coming soon to question you.”

“The police!”

“Yes the police. You attacked a pupil with a weapon. You will be questioned by the police, it’s an illegal offence.” I started to hyperventilate. “Duncan, are you ok?” I shook my head and blacked out.

“Duncan?” I woke up and saw Lewis. “Oh thank god!” He hugged me tightly. “You fainted in Miss Rutherford’s office and we couldn’t wake you. We had to call an ambulance. They ran some tests and they said you were dangerously underweight. Have you been starving yourself?”

“I’m sorry Lewis.” His face crumpled up and he cried. “I should’ve told you. I shouldn’t have kept it to myself.”

“It’ fine Duncan. I care about you and just don’t want to see you hurt.” I really felt for this boy, he was my friend and had been for a while. I didn’t want him to be hurting like this.

“Lewis, if you want you can give me up as a friend. It would stop you being so sad.” A shocked look appeared on his face.

“Duncan Jones! How dare you? I care about you no matter what, you are my friend. I would never leave your side. I need you and you need me. You don’t make me sad, you make me happy. No matter what you are always there for me, and I’m always there for you. Why would you question this?”

“I don’t know; I’m all over the place. I’m sorry Lewis.” I hugged him. Then moved in and kissed him.
