Duncan’s POV
Lewis and I sat on the couch. Lewis was crying into my chest. I rubbed his back gently while I looked at Steven solemnly.
“Do you want to go and see her?” He nodded. “Go.” He looked at me thinking about it. “Go, Steven.” He got up and left, but he didn’t go out he went to his room. I left Lewis on the couch; he had cried himself to sleep. I walked up to Steven’s room and knocked on the door. “Steven? Are you ok?” I opened the door slowly and he was sat on the floor. “Steven?” I slowly walked into the room. “Steven, answer me. Steven, answer me, now!” He was scaring me now. I walked around and saw him with his knees to his chest and crying. I sat next to him. “Why are you crying? You can go out with Sky. Lewis, Rythian and Zoey all agree with me. Why would you be crying?” He looked up at me.
“Because of this.” He pulled up his sleeve and there was a sun symbol on his hand, it looked like it was running out of something. I held his wrist and examined it. In the brief moment I was looking at it he changed a little. I looked up at him and he had large ears and a snout. A tail then appeared from behind him and he cried again. “I was bitten by something and now his happens every time this sun symbol dims. I think I’m a wezen.”
“It’s ok, Sjin was a wezen and he turned out fine.” I thought of everything bad that Sjin had done, but that could have just been his personality. “I don’t think it will change the way she thinks of you.” I hugged him. “What do you need to change back?”
“Sunlight...”
“I know exactly where to find it.” I ran back to my lab and pressed a button. I ran back to him. “Look outside.” He walked onto his balcony and stood in the rising light. His ears, snout and tail disappeared. “You good?”
“Yeah, thanks dad.” He hugged me and flew towards Rythian’s base.
“Don’t be back too late.” I didn’t want him to get hurt. I walked back to the sleeping Lewis and wrapped my arms around him. He moved so he was wrapped around me and so I couldn’t get up. Great. I lay there and fell asleep with him. When I woke Steven and Sky were in the kitchen. I carried Lewis up to bed. I walked back down to the kitchen quietly. “Hello!” They both turned quickly and I laughed. “Don’t worry; I’m just here to tell you that as long as you’re safe I don’t mind.” I saw Steven go bright red. “I’ll see you later, don’t stay up too late.” I walked back upstairs leaving Steven embarrassed and Sky giggling. Lewis was awake when I went up; I climbed into bed with him and pulled him closer.
“What happened while I was asleep?”
“Sky’s here.” Lewis smiled and snuggled into my neck. I pulled him close and kissed the top of his head. He fell asleep and I fell asleep with him tightly in my arms. I woke up the next morning and checked on Steven. He was asleep in bed with Sky. I went to the kitchen and began cooking pancakes for them all. I had 2 large plates of pancakes. “GET UP! I HAVE PANCAKES!” I heard the sound of feet come down the stair and Steven and Sky sat down almost immediately. Lewis walked in after them and sat down, I sat next to him.
“Thank you dad.” Steven said.
“Thank you Mr Jones.” Sky said. I smiled.
“You can call us Duncan and Lewis.” She nodded as she chewed on a pancake. We ate all the pancakes and then relaxed on the couches. We were all watching the TV when Sjin burst in. Sky was the first to react. She leapt back, dragging Steven behind her.
“What are you doing here?” He smiled.
“I’m here to kill you. Your father has already tried and failed; he killed Sips, just not me.” Sjin walked towards her and grabbed her by her collar. I got up and stood behind him.
