Chapter Fifteen - The Bond

.

Two painfully long days later and we still hadn't gotten to fucking.

Nate was definitely getting more energy, his wounds were definitely healing way faster than before, but it was those damned stitches that kept me from having the best night of my life. We'd tried again, we'd tried more times that I would admit and each and every time we were getting somewhere, exhaustion would take over Nate and he would barely be able to hold himself upright. It had left me more desperate than before and I was considering bringing his wolf forward again.

The dreams I was having were definitely not helping either. In my dreams, Nate's hands were all over me, his hot mouth was against my skin, his beautiful cock deep inside me. I shudder at my thoughts and jump in surprise when a warm hand settles on me knee. My eyes move to Nate, who only stared with almost dark blue eyes. His eyes narrow slightly- probably a warning to focus.

He moves his hand away and I sit upright on my chair, crossing my hands over my chest. That's when I realize eyes were on me. I blink in surprise and feel a wave of heat travel up my cheeks, "Sorry, what?" I ask and have to clear my throat at how husky my voice came out.

It's Brandon who opens his mouth and ruins my mood, "The attack" he says almost as if he was the irritated one. It was Nate and I who were told a meeting had to happen now since Nate was mostly functioning. "Anything else you saw?"

Annoyance crawls through my skin, because all this happened because of him. A part of me still debated if I should tell them. "No" I counter and meet his eyes head on, "I was too busy trying not to die."

"It was outside our borders" Nicholas interrupts smoothly, his eyes frowning at the large map that was displayed on the touch glass table. "We can have more patrol around the area but we have no way of knowing if they had been coming towards our territory or Lakeview."

I turn towards Nate, who simply stared at the table. I wondered if he had heard anything the wolves had said to me, but seeing as he had not brought it up, I was guessing he didn't.

My mind travels back to the man I killed, and close my eyes hard when his face pops into my head. His parted lips, the shock on his face as he stared at the wound on his chest. The blood that had immediately started to pour out in handfuls. Nate had later told me that he had made the bullets specifically dipped and crafted with wolfsbane after he found out I, a human, was his mate.

He'd made a weapon for me knowing I'd have the power to kill him. The trust he'd already seemed to have sent a wave of emotions to my heart.

"...resume when we're all paying attention" Brandon's voice meets my ears and my eyes snap back to him.

It was Nate who opens his mouth, "With all respect, Alpha Brandon, I would appreciate you show the same respect to my mate as I've always given you and your mates" his voice was calm, cold but equally hard.

Brandon's eyes look at Nate, a twinge of surprise flashing across his face but he says nothing. Christopher is the one who lets out a warning growl at Nate, the whole table suddenly having a suffocating air of dominance. Nate doesn't back down at all, keeping his head upright and unfaltering.

"Maybe we do this laters" Cody's voice breaks the uncomfortable silence.

"It won't be necessary" Brandon cuts him off sharply as his eyes move to me, and he looks down at me with distaste. "There's nothing else to say. It was a random attack. Just bad luck."

"Bad luck?" I snap incredulously, my own voice awfully cold and angry. I push out of my seat wanting to get out of this stuffed room. There was no way I'd sit here and listen to him talk and enjoy his own voice.
