The room was dark and cold when I woke up, the moon still shining outside creating a soft glow inside the room. My eyes travel to the slightly opened window and a frustrated groan leaves my lips. I had argued that the window remain ajar for the remainder of the night. Now I wished I had listened.

Not that I would admit it.

I turn around in bed and scoot close to the large, warm body beside me. His eyes were still closed, and even though the room was dark, I could still clearly see his chest rising and falling slowly. I let my eyes take in the smooth curve of his nose, along his sculpted jawline, over his plump lips. Oh how I wished I could have those lips on me.

Hunger started crawling down my needy body and I scold myself in annoyance. He was literally injured and I wanted to jump his body. Well, just one part of his body in particular.

I was a fool to believe completing our mating would cease the need to always want this man's hands, body, and mouth all over me. No, it seemed that it was now worse. Granted, the scorching pain was gone, but I was a literal whore for this man. I could just lay my eyes on him and everything in me wanted me to immediately bend myself over for him.

I was fighting it with everything inside me, I needed to keep some dignity.

He had still not fully awakened for us to have the awkward conversation that needed to be had since our mating two nights ago. But the second Irving confirmed his vitals were indeed rising and his healing had also begun, I had fought with tooth and nail to bring him up here. He needed peace and silence when he woke up.

I shove those thoughts away and continue watching this man sleep peacefully, my body relaxing once I made sure he was still breathing. Irving had removed the gauze on his neck, revealing a red but healing  gash. The injury on his side was still bad, but the bleeding had completely stopped and Irving claimed it was a really good sign.

I pull the pillow I had a smidge closer to his and allow myself to scoot up against him, letting my fingers grab hold of his upper arm before I let the exhaustion completely take over again.

The next time my eyes opened, I was startled to have icy blue eyes already locked into my face. I gasp and push myself upright, feeling tears of joy start to form. I swallow hard, forcing myself not to cry in front of him right now, "Nate" I finally manage after a few seconds, wincing at how pitiful it came out. "Are you okay? Are you in pain?"

His eyes remained locked on my face as he said nothing, just silently staring at my face.

"Nate" I demand again, feeling anxiety start to creep up.

I make a move to push the covers off the rest of the way to stand and get Irving before he finally speaks, "Stay."

I turn my eyes back to him, relief coursing through every inch of my body, but also a wave of annoyance "Jesus, why didn't you answer me?" I snap and close my eyes to take a few calming breaths. When I open them, he was still just staring at me. "What?" I demand.

"Forgive me" he says, a wince showing on his face as he tried to sit up.

I lurch forward and press my hands against his chest to gently keep him down. He doesn't fight it and instead just goes back to staring at my face. It takes me a lot longer than I'd like to admit to process my hands against his warm chest and I yank them back quickly with a deep flush slowly rising up my neck. "I don't know what you're talking about" I finally say, fighting the breathlessness crawling up my lungs.

"I failed to protect you" he manages and his eyes narrow slightly. His hand reaches up and since I had moved closer to keep him down, he was able to reach my face. I held my breath as his fingers gently caressed the side of my face. I had to pause and remember the large bruise that was still healing there. "Forgive me."
