The morning sun cast a warm glow over the campus as Jungwon walked toward the lecture hall, his thoughts still a tangled mess from the previous night’s conversation with Jake and Sunoo. The campus was alive with the usual buzz of students hurrying to their classes, chatting with friends, and sipping on their morning coffees. It all felt strangely normal, a stark contrast to the whirlwind his life had become over the past few days.
He spotted Jake and Sunoo near their usual meeting spot by the big oak tree. Sunoo was leaning against the trunk, scrolling through his phone, while Jake was engaged in a conversation with a couple of classmates. As Jungwon approached, Sunoo looked up and greeted him with a bright smile.
“Morning, Won!” Sunoo chirped, slipping his phone into his pocket. “Ready for another day of mind-numbing lectures?”
Jungwon chuckled, glad for the bit of normalcy. “As ready as I’ll ever be.”
Jake wrapped up his conversation and turned to them, his expression more serious. “Hey, Jungwon. You doing okay?”
Jungwon nodded, though he could tell Jake was still worried. “Yeah, I’m good. I was actually going to ask you guys the same thing. Did you think about what we talked about last night?”
Sunoo’s eyes sparkled with a mix of excitement and mischief. “I did, and honestly, I think we should go for it. I mean, when else are we going to get a chance to hang out with billionaires? It could be fun!”
Jake, on the other hand, was more reserved. He rubbed the back of his neck, a thoughtful frown on his face. “I’m still not sure, Won. It feels… weird, you know? Like, what do they really want with us?”
Jungwon sighed, understanding Jake’s concerns. “I get it. I’ve been asking myself the same question. But Jay’s been nothing but respectful to me, and from what I’ve seen, Heeseung, Sunghoon, and Niki seem like decent guys. They’re interested, but I don’t think they have any bad intentions.”
Sunoo nudged Jake playfully. “Come on, Jake! Live a little! We’ll just meet them, see what they’re like. If it’s too much, we can always bail.”
Jake still looked uncertain, but he finally sighed and nodded. “Alright, fine. We’ll meet them. But if anything feels off, we’re out of there, got it?”
“Got it,” Sunoo and Jungwon said in unison, relieved that Jake was on board.
With that settled, they headed toward their first class of the day, slipping into their usual routine. The morning passed in a blur of lectures and note-taking, but there was an underlying tension that Jungwon couldn’t quite shake. He knew they were all thinking about what might happen later—about the possibility of meeting Jay’s friends and how it might change things between them.
By the time lunch rolled around, they were all ready for a break. They grabbed their trays and headed to their usual table in the cafeteria, the familiar hustle and bustle of the place helping to ground them.
As they sat down to eat, Sunoo was the first to break the silence. “So, how do you think this is going to go? I mean, what do we even talk about with guys like them?”
Jungwon shrugged, poking at his food with his fork. “Honestly? I have no idea. But I think we just… be ourselves. They seem to like us for who we are, so let’s just see how it goes.”
Jake nodded, though he still looked a bit uneasy. “I guess. I just don’t want us to get caught up in something we’re not ready for.”
Sunoo grinned, trying to lighten the mood. “Hey, if things get weird, we’ll just make a run for it. Simple as that.”
Jungwon chuckled, appreciating Sunoo’s attempt to keep things light. “Deal. But let’s at least try to have fun with it.”
They continued their lunch, the conversation gradually shifting to other topics—upcoming assignments, weekend plans, and the usual banter that kept them grounded. But even as they joked and laughed, the thought of what lay ahead lingered in the back of their minds.
As the afternoon classes dragged on, Jungwon found himself growing more anxious. He kept glancing at his phone, half-expecting a message from Jay or one of his friends. But the day remained uneventful, the mundane routine of school life a stark contrast to the anticipation bubbling beneath the surface.
When the final bell rang, signaling the end of the school day, Jungwon packed up his things and met Jake and Sunoo at the front of the building. The sun was starting to dip in the sky, casting long shadows across the campus.
“So… what now?” Jake asked, his tone careful.
Jungwon hesitated, then pulled out his phone. “I guess I’ll text Jay and see if they want to meet up.”
Sunoo nodded eagerly. “Do it! Let’s see where this goes.”
Jungwon took a deep breath and typed out a quick message to Jay, asking if they wanted to meet that evening. He hit send and waited, his heart pounding a little harder than usual.
A few minutes later, his phone buzzed with a reply.
Jay:We’d love to. How about dinner at our place? I’ll send the address.*
Jungwon read the message aloud, and Sunoo practically bounced on his heels. “Dinner at their place? This is going to be awesome!”
Jake still looked a bit apprehensive but nodded. “Alright, let’s do this.”
With the plan set, they walked off campus together, the air filled with a mix of excitement and nerves. Jungwon could feel the weight of what was coming next—the dinner, the introductions, and the possibility of stepping further into Jay’s world.
As they headed home to get ready, Jungwon couldn’t help but wonder if they were all about to cross a line they couldn’t uncross. But for better or worse, they were in this together, and whatever happened next, they would face it side by side.
And so, as the sun dipped lower in the sky, casting a warm glow over the city, Jungwon, Jake, and Sunoo braced themselves for whatever the evening might bring, knowing that their lives were about to take another unexpected turn.
