The morning sun filtered through the curtains of Jungwon’s apartment, casting a soft glow over the room. The place was quiet now, the sounds of the party from the night before replaced by peaceful breathing and the occasional groan from someone waking up. It was the calm after the storm—a storm of laughter, strong drinks, and a birthday celebration that had gotten just a little out of hand.

Jungwon was the first to stir. He blinked his eyes open slowly, his head pounding slightly from the alcohol. He groaned, shifting in his spot on the couch, only to realize he was still nestled against Jay’s chest. His boyfriend was still sound asleep, his arm wrapped protectively around Jungwon, keeping him close.

Jungwon smiled faintly despite the headache. He felt safe and warm in Jay’s arms, and the memories of last night—though a bit hazy—flooded back to him. The confessions, the laughter, the drunken declarations of love... It had been chaotic, but in the best way possible.

He sat up carefully, trying not to wake Jay, and glanced around the apartment. The scene was both hilarious and slightly alarming. Jake was sprawled out on the floor between the couch and the coffee table, one arm thrown over his face, clearly trying to block out the sunlight. Heeseung and Sunghoon were passed out on either side of him, still dressed but looking surprisingly comfortable despite the awkward positions they’d fallen asleep in.

On the other side of the room, Sunoo was curled up on one end of the couch, his head resting on Niki’s shoulder. Niki, who had somehow managed to stay the most composed the night before, was awake now, though he looked like he hadn’t moved much during the night. He caught Jungwon’s eye and gave him a small, tired smile.

“Morning,” Niki whispered, his voice hoarse from sleep.

Jungwon chuckled softly, rubbing his temples. “Morning... How’s everyone holding up?”

Niki glanced around at the others, who were still fast asleep. “Looks like everyone’s still recovering from last night.” He looked down at Sunoo, who was still snoring softly. “Sunoo had a good time, though.”

Jungwon snickered, shaking his head as he stood up and stretched. “Yeah, I can tell. The last thing I remember is Sunoo trying to convince us all to start a dance-off.”

Niki laughed quietly, careful not to wake Sunoo. “Oh, he tried. Didn’t work, though—he was too tipsy to stand, let alone dance.”

Jungwon shook his head, still smiling as he glanced at the clock. It was already mid-morning, and the apartment was a mess. Empty glasses and plates were scattered around the room, remnants of the fancy food from the night before left half-eaten. And then, of course, there was the untouched birthday cake still sitting in the fridge.

With a sigh, Jungwon walked over to the fridge and opened it, staring at the giant cake that had gone completely forgotten in the chaos of the night. It was an extravagant cake—layers of chocolate and cream, beautifully decorated with intricate designs and topped with a delicate message that read Happy Birthday, Jungwon. He couldn’t help but laugh at the irony.

“We didn’t even cut the cake,” he said aloud, shaking his head as he pulled it out and set it on the kitchen counter.

Niki grinned from across the room, shifting slightly to adjust Sunoo’s sleeping form. “Guess we’ll have birthday cake for breakfast, then.”

Jungwon grabbed a knife and began cutting slices for everyone. As he worked, Jake began to stir, groaning loudly as he sat up and rubbed his head. “Ugh... what happened?”

“You drank too much, that’s what happened,” Jungwon teased, bringing a plate of cake over to him.

Jake blinked at the slice of cake in front of him, squinting at it as if it were too bright. “Wait... is it morning? Why are we eating cake?”

Jungwon laughed. “Because we forgot to eat it last night. So... breakfast.”

Heeseung and Sunghoon stirred next, both groaning as they woke up in sync, as if they’d shared the same hangover. Heeseung stretched lazily, while Sunghoon sat up slowly, looking around the room in confusion.

“Morning,” Sunghoon mumbled, his voice rough. “What time is it?”

“Late enough,” Jungwon replied, handing them both slices of cake. “We’re having cake for breakfast.”

Heeseung raised an eyebrow, glancing between the cake and Jungwon. “Cake? Did we even eat last night?”

“Barely,” Jake grumbled, still looking like he hadn’t quite processed being awake. “I remember the drinks, though.”

Sunoo was the last to wake up, blinking sleepily as he sat up and yawned. He looked around the room in confusion, then his eyes landed on the cake. “Wait... is that the birthday cake?”

Niki, who was now fully awake, handed Sunoo a slice and nodded. “Yup. We forgot to eat it last night.”

Sunoo giggled, still a bit groggy. “Well, better late than never!”

As the group slowly gathered around the kitchen counter, everyone digging into their cake, the laughter and teasing from the night before slowly returned. Despite the hangovers and the chaos, there was a sense of warmth and contentment in the air. They had celebrated in their own messy way, and now, they were all recovering together.

Jungwon leaned against the counter, watching his friends with a fond smile. Jay came up behind him, slipping an arm around his waist and pressing a soft kiss to the top of his head.

“Happy birthday again,” Jay murmured, his voice soft.

Jungwon smiled, leaning into the embrace. “Thanks... for everything. It was a crazy night, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

Jay chuckled, pulling him closer. “I’m glad. You deserve the best, Jungwon.”

As they stood there, the warmth of the morning sun filling the room and the sounds of their friends’ laughter echoing around them, Jungwon realized just how lucky he was. He had the best friends he could ask for, an amazing boyfriend, and memories from a night that would stick with them for years to come.

And as they all sat around the table, sharing cake and stories from the night before, Jungwon couldn’t help but smile to himself.

This was what happiness felt like—chaotic, messy, but filled with love.
