The evening had progressed into a comfortable hum of laughter and conversation, the lavish Valentine’s Day surprise having left Jungwon and his friends overwhelmed with gratitude and affection. The gifts, the food, the luxurious setting—it all felt surreal. But for Jungwon, the most surreal part was the way Jay’s attention never wavered from him, even with all the grand gestures.
As the sun set and the city lights flickered in the distance through the large floor-to-ceiling windows, the crowd of guards and attendants began to thin out, leaving the two groups more space. Sunoo and Niki had drifted toward the far end of the room, playfully bickering over a game on their new phones, while Heeseung and Sunghoon stood in the corner, deep in conversation with Jake, who was flashing his easy smile at them.
Jungwon found himself alone with Jay on one of the plush velvet couches. The atmosphere around them softened, becoming quieter, more intimate. The air was warm, and the buzz of energy from earlier in the day had mellowed into something deeper. Something more personal.
Jay leaned back, his black suit jacket lying open, shirt slightly unbuttoned, a soft smile playing on his lips as he observed Jungwon. “Did you enjoy today?” he asked in a low, gentle voice.
Jungwon turned to him, meeting his gaze. He still couldn’t quite believe everything that had happened today, but in this moment, under the soft lights and with Jay sitting so close to him, everything else faded away.
“I... I did,” Jungwon admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. His heart was beating faster than usual, though he didn’t know if it was from the overwhelming gifts or from being so close to Jay.
Jay shifted closer, his knee brushing lightly against Jungwon’s leg. There was something in his eyes, a softness that Jungwon had never seen before. Jay had always been confident, composed, but now, as they sat together, he seemed... vulnerable, almost hesitant.
“You’ve made today special for me too,” Jay confessed quietly, his gaze dropping to Jungwon’s hands for a moment before returning to his face. “I didn’t expect it to feel this... meaningful.”
Jungwon’s breath caught in his throat. There was a tension between them now, but not the uncomfortable kind—it was the kind that felt charged, like something was about to change.
Without thinking, Jungwon let out a soft laugh. “I didn’t expect this either,” he said, a bit shy but honest.
Jay smiled, his fingers gently reaching out to brush a stray strand of hair away from Jungwon’s face. The touch was light, almost hesitant, but it sent a shiver down Jungwon’s spine. The distance between them seemed to shrink with every passing second.
“Jungwon...” Jay’s voice was softer now, almost a whisper. “I’ve wanted to tell you something for a while now, but I wasn’t sure how.”
Jungwon’s heart pounded in his chest, anticipation building. “What is it?”
Jay’s fingers trailed down, lightly touching Jungwon’s cheek, sending a wave of warmth through him. “I... I care about you. More than I thought I would.” He paused, searching Jungwon’s eyes, as if looking for permission to continue. “I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time.”
Before Jungwon could respond, Jay leaned in. Slowly, carefully, as if giving Jungwon the chance to pull away. But Jungwon didn’t. He stayed perfectly still, his heart racing, his breath shallow. And then, Jay’s lips touched his—soft, warm, and gentle.
The world seemed to stop in that moment. All the noise from the day, all the confusion, the chaos of their situation—it all melted away. It was just the two of them, connected in a way that words couldn’t describe.
Jungwon’s eyes fluttered closed, his hand reaching out to rest lightly on Jay’s chest as he kissed him back. It was soft and slow, as if they had all the time in the world. The kiss wasn’t demanding or rushed, but instead, it felt like a promise—a promise of something more, something real.
When they finally pulled apart, their foreheads rested against each other, both of them breathing heavily. Jay’s hand stayed on Jungwon’s cheek, his thumb gently brushing over his skin.
“Was that okay?” Jay asked, his voice barely above a whisper, as if he were afraid to break the moment.
Jungwon smiled softly, feeling a warmth bloom in his chest that had nothing to do with the lavish gifts or the luxurious setting. It was because of Jay. “Yeah,” he breathed out. “It was more than okay.”
Jay’s smile widened, and for the first time, Jungwon saw a flicker of nervousness behind his confident demeanor. It made him seem more real, more human. “I’m glad,” Jay whispered before leaning in to press a soft kiss to Jungwon’s forehead.
The rest of the evening passed in a blur, but for Jungwon, that moment—their first kiss—was all he could think about. It wasn’t the grand gifts or the luxurious gestures that made the day special. It was Jay, and the way he had made him feel. Like he was the only person that mattered.
