Chapter 17: Secrets Shared Over Lunch
It was a regular school day, but the atmosphere felt different—lighter, somehow. Jungwon, Sunoo, and Jake had all shown up to class with bright smiles and an extra bounce in their steps. Valentine's Day had passed, and with it came the biggest change in their lives: each of them was now in a relationship with someone they cared about deeply.
Still, none of them had confessed their new relationship statuses to each other. It wasn’t intentional—there just hadn’t been a chance yet. But as lunch approached, they all knew it was time to finally share their secret.
The trio met at their usual spot in the school cafeteria, trays in hand, and found an empty table near the window. They sat down, exchanging casual greetings and falling into their usual banter. Yet, there was an unspoken excitement between them, a buzzing energy that none of them could quite ignore.
Sunoo, always the most expressive, couldn’t hold it in any longer. He set his sandwich down and grinned at his friends, his eyes sparkling with mischief. “Okay, guys, I have something to tell you,” he announced dramatically, making sure he had their full attention.
Jake raised an eyebrow, already sensing where this was going. “Oh? What is it, Sunoo?” he asked, trying to keep his voice casual but unable to hide the amusement in his tone.
Jungwon, sitting across from them, leaned forward, curious but also trying to hide the knowing smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
Sunoo took a deep breath, then practically bounced in his seat as he blurted out, “I’m in a relationship!”
Jungwon and Jake both gasped in mock shock, but there was a glimmer of something playful in their eyes. “No way!” Jungwon exclaimed, his voice dripping with faux disbelief. “With who?”
Sunoo leaned in, his voice dropping to a dramatic whisper. “Niki,” he said, as if revealing the most scandalous secret ever.
Jake clapped his hands together, laughter bubbling out of him. “I knew it! You guys have been practically inseparable for weeks. But... how did it happen?”
Sunoo shrugged, trying to play it cool, but the grin on his face gave him away. “He confessed to me on Valentine’s Day. It was so sweet, and... well, I kind of confessed too.” His cheeks turned a light shade of pink, and he giggled, unable to contain his happiness. “So, yeah... we’re officially together now.”
Jungwon and Jake exchanged a look—one of shared amusement but also understanding. They were both genuinely happy for Sunoo, but there was something else bubbling under the surface. They both had their own secrets to share.
Jake, unable to keep his excitement bottled up any longer, leaned forward and smirked. “Well, since we’re sharing... I guess it’s my turn.”
Sunoo’s eyes widened in anticipation. “No way, Jake! You too?”
Jake grinned, leaning back in his chair as if he had the biggest secret in the world. “Yeah... I’m in a relationship too.” He paused for dramatic effect, glancing between Sunoo and Jungwon before dropping the bombshell. “With Heeseung and Sunghoon.”
The reaction was immediate. Sunoo’s mouth dropped open in shock, while Jungwon let out a loud laugh. “I knew it!” Jungwon practically shouted, shaking his head in disbelief but grinning from ear to ear.
Sunoo blinked, trying to process what he had just heard. “Wait, both of them? How does that even work?”
Jake chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck, clearly a little shy about explaining. “It just... does. They both care about me, and I care about both of them. We talked it through, and... well, we’re together. All three of us.”
Sunoo stared at him for a moment, then broke into a wide grin. “That’s amazing, Jake! I’m so happy for you. You’ve got double the love!”
Jake laughed, relieved that his friends took it so well. “Yeah, it’s definitely... a lot, but it feels right.”
Jungwon, still grinning from Jake’s revelation, decided it was his turn to come clean. “Alright, alright. I guess it’s my turn.”
Jake and Sunoo immediately turned to him, their eyes wide with anticipation. “No way, Jungwon. You too?” Sunoo asked, already sensing the answer.
Jungwon smiled softly, his cheeks turning a bit pink as he nodded. “Yeah... I’m with Jay.”
Both Jake and Sunoo gasped dramatically, though it was clear they weren’t entirely surprised. “Jay?! The CEO billionaire who practically worships you?!” Jake teased, nudging Jungwon with his elbow.
Jungwon laughed, unable to hide his happiness. “Yeah, that Jay. He kissed me on Valentine’s Day. It was... perfect.”
Sunoo clapped his hands together, bouncing in his seat with excitement. “I knew it! You two were practically made for each other.”
Jake grinned, shaking his head in amusement. “You’re really dating a billionaire, Jungwon. I’m so proud.”
Jungwon laughed, his heart feeling light and full. “I guess I am.”
The three of them sat there for a moment, letting the reality sink in. They were all in relationships now, and not just any relationships—ones that made them feel seen, cherished, and cared for. It was almost surreal.
Sunoo was the first to break the silence, a soft smile on his face. “I guess we’re all in love now, huh?”
Jake chuckled, leaning back in his chair. “Looks like it.”
Jungwon smiled, warmth spreading through his chest. “Yeah... I guess we are.”
The rest of lunch was filled with laughter, teasing, and sweet stories about their new relationships. Sunoo couldn’t stop talking about how cute Niki was when he got flustered, while Jake shared stories about how Heeseung and Sunghoon had been working together to plan a special date for him. Jungwon listened with a soft smile, happy to finally share these moments with his best friends.
There was an ease between them, a sense of joy that came from knowing they were all in this together. No matter how different their relationships were, the love and support they felt from each other made everything feel perfect.
As the bell rang, signaling the end of lunch, the three boys gathered their things, still laughing and teasing each other as they made their way to class. There was a lightness in the air, and even though they knew there would be challenges ahead, they also knew they had each other to lean on.
And as they walked through the crowded halls of their high school, side by side, they couldn’t help but smile.
After all, love had found each of them in the most unexpected—and beautiful—ways.
