Chapter 22 - From a Cradle to a Grave.

Flashback - The Baby's Bedroom.

It was some time before The Battle of New Orleans where Elena is sitting in the rocking chair in the baby's nursery, not only to relax but so she can write a letter for her daughter when she gets older, she was about to start writing when Klaus enters the room, leaned in the doorway to watch Elena for a second when he said "Are you writing a love letter to one of your many suitors?" Elena rolled her eyes but she giggled slightly, looked up at Klaus and said "Why are you being so nosey?" Klaus chuckled and said "I'm bored, Caroline has gone out to get some things for the baby and she told me that I can't go with her because I will distract her" Elena shook her head and said "And you thought to come and bother me by telling you who I am writing to?" Klaus shrugged his shoulders and said "It beats seeing who is the better artist, me or Jeremy, I thought I would not embarrass him because I did spend a thousand years perfecting my technique" Elena shook her head again and said "I did tell him that he will get his pride and ego hurt if he did that but he doesn't listen" Klaus chuckled and said "That's why I showed him some of what I learnt throughout the years and he is really a brilliant student" Elena smiled and said "Jeremy is thinking of finding a college here in New Orleans he can attend to so he can be around more often, I think he is missing me more when he is not here and he doesn't want to be away from his niece when she comes" Klaus nodded his head and said "I get that," Elena nodded her head when Klaus, who smirked at Elena, who knew what Klaus is about to do, and she was proven right when he said "so tell me, who is the lucky recipient you are writing to? Jackson? Or Elijah? It couldn't be the one of the Salvatore's because you haven't called or texted them in a year" Elena once again rolled her eyes at that when Klaus dramatically gasped which she giggled at and he said "Don't tell me it's me?" both Klaus and Elijah laughed at that, he said "I thought that I was out of the running ages ago!" Elena shook her head while giggling, she smiled up at Klaus and said "You know that I deleted their numbers after blocking them, I also have to say is, the award for the 'Biggest Ego' goes to..." Elena gestured to Klaus which made them both laugh, Elena stopped when she felt their daughter's kick, she winced and said "Oh! You are getting strong" Klaus walked closer to Elena with a soft expression on his face and said "And how is our littlest wolf doing?" Elena smiled up at Klaus, placed the notepad and pen to the side, rubbed where she felt the kick and said "She is fine, making her mama not getting any sleep when she kicks me during the night but overall, she is perfect" Elena saw Klaus look at her stomach and knew what he wants, she softly said "Do you want to feel her kick?".

Klaus looked into Elena's eyes, she saw that he is scared and looking nervous, she smiled up at him, held her hand out and said "Come here and pass me your hand," Klaus just looked at Elena, who nodded her head and said "It's okay" Klaus went closer to Elena, gave his hand to her, knelt down on the ground to get a better position, Elena placed his hand where she can feel their daughter kicking, placed her hand out top of his and watched his face for his reaction and she wasn't disappointed when she saw the look of a very proud father, he said "That's amazing!" Elena smiled at Klaus and said "She knows that her daddy is here and wants to say 'Hi' to you, I also found out that when she hears your voice she falls asleep at night" Klaus smiled on Elena's stomach, rubbed his thumb where he can feel the kicking and said "It feels like it's getting tight in there for her" Elena rubbed her fingers on the back of his hand which made him look up at her, she smiled at him in reassurance that she's fine and said "Women have been doing this for centuries, it's beautiful what our body's could do and birthing children is one of them, yeah it might seem tight in there but that's only because my body was on the smaller side than the average woman but because she is constantly stretching to make more room inside" Klaus nodded his head and said "I guess your right, you didn't even show until you were almost six months pregnant, Bonnie said that it was normal given how small you were before you got pregnant" Elena giggled and said "My adoptive parents took me to see doctors to see why I was small and all the doctors would say was that it's pretty common and not to worry but they did worry, I made so many of the female students at school jealous that I don't even need to exercise to lose weight and I could eat so much food that I don't gain any weight" Klaus chuckled and said "Esther once said that I was the same, yeah I gained muscle but I never gained any weight" Elena tilted her head and said "I guess we have to thank our werewolf side for that" Klaus nodded his head when Caroline walked in, saw Klaus with his hand on Elena's stomach, smiled and said "How is my niece?" Klaus chuckled but didn't move his hand when he said "She is active, come feel her kick" Elena giggled, watched Caroline quickly placed the shopping bags on the table by the door, moved over to where Klaus is, knelt on the ground and joined her hand with his, Elena felt her daughter kick where Caroline's and Klaus's hands were, which made Caroline giggle and said "It's getting close to her being here" Elena slapped Caroline on the shoulder and said "Don't say that" Caroline looked at Elena and saw that she is a little worried, Caroline got Elena's hand in her other one, squeezed it and said "You don't have to be worried Elena, you already know what to do when you start going into labor, we are prepared for all case scenarios, which we went over thousands of times and Bonnie already knows several spells so you aren't in pain, we got this".
