Johan didn't want to do this, he really did not. He didn't love prying into his girlfriend's past and invade her privacy, despite his occupation literally involving investigating private and criminal affairs of other citizens. You see, he had these gnawing thoughts in the back of his mind that, perhaps, that there was something off about her waking up in a tiny town in Germany one day and not remembering who she was. He had no doubt that she wasn't lying about forgetting her past life, but his gut had never betrayed him before; so, here he had been for weeks, delving into her past, every ounce of guilt that plagued his body and mind not being enough to stop him from doing so. Her financials were curious, with her being nearly a millionaire. This beautiful, talented woman that he'd been with for five months, was an enigma, a puzzle he felt he must solve even if it killed him. When he had asked Kaylee to move in with him, it didn't feel forced or too soon. Johan could see himself marrying the woman in the future. That could not happen until... whoever Kaylee Percy really was, understood her past and came to terms with it.

Being a police officer came with great honor and integrity --- Johan knew this, yet, when it came to Kaylee, she made him begin to not even care about these things as long as it came to protecting her and understanding her better. Johan was in love with her, and struggled with understanding what that meant due to not really even knowing who "she" actually was. Months ago, after running her ID through the system and finding it didn't exist, Johan felt his integrity slowly slipping away as he began to use his power for selfish reasons. Still, he didn't regret this. The next step was naturally going through her things and phone, where he found one of the only contacts besides himself and Anastasia that he didn't recognize. Upon looking the number up in the system, the name came up as 'Sandra Adams,' an American police officer residing in Albuquerque, New Mexico. And what would Kaylee need from an American police officer that she couldn't get from him?

"I think we need to take a break. I'm so sorry, but I just need some space to figure some things out. I'll contact you when I'm ready." Something tingled inside Johan that was beyond anger, beyond frustration, beyond confusion --- it was a white-hot rage. Not a rage towards his sweet, precious Kaylee, a rage towards this Sandra Adams person. She was definitely the reason his perfect soulmate was in such disarray when he had met her over a year ago, the reason she couldn't feel confident and breathe in the sweet aroma of their homey German town, the reason she couldn't commit fully to him. Johan was trained in behavioral studies for his career. He noticed every flinch when he went to put his arm around her, he noticed every paranoid glance behind her, he noticed her desire --- no, need --- to triple check her locks every single night despite his reassurance that she would be okay. Whether Kaylee remembered her past or not, whatever happened to her was traumatic beyond words and made her the most untrusting individual she could possibly be.

So, as he sat at his desk, glossy eyes illuminated by the computer screen in front of him, his lips trembled as he struggled to respond to Sandra that had answered his phone call. Loosening his tie aggressively, Johan shakily ran his fingers through his sand blonde hair before clearing his throat. "Sandra, my name is Johan Jorgensen, and I am the Chief of Police in a small town in Germany called Bessingheim. I was hoping you would cooperate on a human trafficking investigation we are heading up here. We believe some of the victims may be from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and were wondering if you would come down and try to identify them."

A long pause ensued on the other end of the line, and Johan held his breath, afraid that his excuse would be seen through by the officer. "Isn't this something that we could normally do virtually, such as a video conference or sending over evidence to be reviewed by prosecution?"

Johan squeezed his eyes shut tight in annoyance. Of course, he hadn't thought this plan through entirely. He made this phone call on the impulse of finding out that Kaylee had asked for space. He should've known a mere officer wouldn't be the person in these actual circumstances that would be contacted by a Chief of Police, and that she would likely see through this ruse. He held in an exasperated sigh so that Sandra would not hear his frustration. He paused for a moment before thinking quickly on his feet of another tactic that may work over the phone. Yes... it's not a perfect plan, but perhaps I could try to gauge a reaction. Clearing his throat nervously yet again, Johan began to speak. "U-um yes, in normal circumstances you're absolutely correct. However, we are having a lot of doubts that we have enough evidence to present right at this moment. Are you at your station currently? What if I give you some names and maybe you could look in the database for missing persons cases?"
