The morning's routine was noticeably rushed. Items that had been left behind during the previous night's events were quickly being thrown into trunks as the voices of the L/N family could be heard from all corners of the house.

In a flurry of colors and textures, the girl tossed items from across her bedroom in a last-minute attempt to speed along the packing process. Lost socks, forgotten jumpers, and memorabilia went soaring across the room into her trunk.

"Y/N! We're late!" Her mother shouted from the bottom of the stairs. She anxiously looked at the old clock that hung from the living room entrance. "You're going to miss the train!"

Y/N slammed her trunk shut and raced down the steps, taking extra care to avoid slipping on the third step, which had become unstable from years of wear and tear. She quickly brushed her tangled hair down with her fingers as she tossed her belongings into the car.

"Why can't we just apparate?" she asked.

"You know why," her father responded with a small shake of his head. "We'd be spotted immediately by the muggles."

The freshly washed, navy car pulled out of their winding driveway. Y/N took the few minutes it took to reach King's Cross Station to mentally go over her packing checklist, while also thinking of all the stories she would tell her friends on the train ride to Hogwarts.

"Quickly now," her mother urged as they pulled into the station. The place was bustling with people as usual, delaying their path to the brick wall between platforms 9 and 10. "You go first. Your father and I will follow."

Quickly, she pushed her cart and ran through the wall, arriving at a familiar platform filled with wizards and witches alike. She looked around excitedly, waited momentarily for her parents to pass, and then began to move closer to the waiting train.

"Make sure to write as soon as you arrive," her mother reminded her, smoothing the girl's hair down before pressing a kiss to her forehead. "And stay out of trouble."

Y/N gave a sheepish nod, recalling the many times she had been lured into one of Fred and George's infamous pranks. Despite her other friends' attempts to keep her out of them, she found that she was very easily persuaded into their less-than-ideal antics.

The train's whistle blew, indicating its approaching departure. Y/N hugged her parents goodbye and quickly got into the train to avoid being left behind.

After taking a moment to compose herself, having lost her breath during her rush onto the train, she straightened up and walked down the hall towards her usual compartment. The closer she got, the louder the voices became.

The door to the compartment slid open and she was met with the familiar citrusy and fruity smells of Angelina and Alicia, both of whom had gotten prettier over the summer. She smiled at them as they excitedly welcomed her back.

Her eyes skimmed the compartment, slight confusion and disappointment filling her at the lack of three rowdy Gryffindor boys. Noticing her expression, Alicia laughed, "They stopped by to drop off their trunks, but said they had 'important matters' to attend to."

She nodded, only able to imagine what they possibly meant by that. Still, it was not such a loss that she was unable to enjoy her time with the girls. Conversation flowed easily between the trio as they all shared stories of their summer. The reunion brought a warm feeling to Y/N/s chest and she felt as if she had never been more grateful for such good company.

Suddenly, a large noise sounded from the hallway, followed by a series of cursed shouts and laughter. The girls all gave each other an inquisitive look before shrugging it off.
