Music chimed through the room, muffled only slightly by the scattered piles of clothes, shoes, and other accessories that had gone discarded by the girls. The room was a mess of fabric, but livened by the sounds of excited chatter and laughter.
Alicia hummed along to the music as she pulled Ginny along in a clumsy waltz, both girls smiling wide as they weaved in between the beds. They twirled past Angelina, who was helping Hermione pin up her hair into a strategically messy updo, and Y/N, who held up different sets of earrings to her ears as she contemplated which paired best with her outfit.
"Tonight's going to be so fun," Alicia called out, spinning Ginny in a circle. "And even better knowing that our Hermione is going to shock all of Gryffindor."
"You mean all of Hogwarts," Ginny laughed. "Oh, Ron's going to go bollocks."
"His loss," Angelina scoffed, sweeping a few loose curls over Hermione's shoulder. "I can't believe he asked you during exams!"
"So did Fred," Y/N pointed out.
"Earlier than George," Alicia shrugged as she and Ginny pulled apart at the last note of the song. The two pretended to bow to one another before smiling and plopping down on Y/N's bed. "Do you suppose it's a Weasley thing?"
"Bill and Charlie would've never waited that long," Ginny said, tucking her hair behind her ear. "Neither would Percy."
"Is Charlie still here?" Angelina asked before silently asking Hermione if her hair was to her liking. She grinned when the younger girl gave a happy nod. "Beautiful as always, Hermione."
"No, he left with the dragons," Y/N answered. "Should I go with these earrings? I think it matches the necklace."
"Definitely," Alicia and Ginny replied.
"Of course you know Charlie's whereabouts," Ginny said with a laugh. "I suppose if you were older, you'd be his girlfriend instead of George's."
"I'm not his girlfriend," Y/N said softly, though a smile had crept onto her face.
"Not yet, you mean," Hermione giggled.
"What's taking so long anyways?" Angelina asked, turning to face the girl.
"It's only been a week," Y/N said.
"A week too long," Alicia groaned. "You two have been ogling each other for years."
Ginny nodded. "George used to stand at the window every morning waiting for your owl. I'm not sure why it took Mum so long to notice."
"Probably too busy worried about their grades," Angelina reasoned, earning a slight nod from Ginny. "I've only met Molly briefly in passing, but she always seems to be on them about their exams."
"Well, who wouldn't be?" Hermione asked, leaning closer to the mirror to fix her mascara.
"She means well," Y/N defended, noticing the slight tension that had appeared in Ginny's shoulders. "George and Fred aren't exactly taking the traditional route."
"Yeah, Mum's never had to deal with that before," Ginny agreed, flashing Y/N an appreciative look. "Bill, Charlie, and Percy are all naturally gifted in academics. It's really the rest of us who are struggling."
"Ginny, you are not struggling," Hermione said, moving away from the vanity to allow Angelina to touch up her makeup. "You passed all your exams."
"Well, I'm not you, Hermione," she replied. "Or Y/N."
"Who cares?" Y/N dismissed. She grabbed a barrette her mom had sent her and held it up to Ginny's hair before offering it to her. "We can barely fly a broom and you're on track to become a professional quidditch player."
