Y/N watched as Hermione flipped, closed, and reopened the same book over and over again. The girl had told Y/N of Lucius Malfoy's suit against Hagrid and Buckbeak days ago, and had been searching for a way to help Hagrid argue against the Ministry. Y/N had also helped for the first few days, but upon hearing that Buckbeak was to be executed - Hagrid had sent a letter addressed to the girls thanking them for their help and informing them of the sentence - she caved in on herself instead. She wasn't sure how to go about stopping the inevitable.

Her hand gripped the letter, which they had received that morning, and she could feel herself spiraling. They both were, but the girls had different ways of expressing it.

"No luck?"

They looked up to see Adrian standing by their shared table. Hermione shook her head in response and returned to her book; she was still wary about disclosing most things to Adrian, but overall didn't mind his presence.

The boy had found the girls hunched over stacks of Magical Creatures Legal texts over the course of the past week and had approached them one night asking about it. Y/N had briefly explained the situation, though her explanation didn't really say anything more than, "Malfoy."

"So the case is closed then?" he asked, looking at Y/N since Hermione was busy skimming her book.

"He's to be executed in April," Y/N sighed, leaning back in her seat to look up at him. "Do you have any good news?"

Adrian smiled at her and shook his head. "Not personally, but your friends have caused quite the ruckus in the dungeons," he replied, pulling a groan out of her.

"What did they do?" she asked, hiding her face in her hands. She had been spending most of her time in the library, so she was relatively in the dark when it came to her friends' movements this past week.

"Well, it reeks," he started, grimacing slightly at the thought. "And Malfoy and his blokes had warts for a bit."

"Of course they did," she mumbled, beginning to clean up the space around her. "Hermione, let me know if you find or hear anything. I'm going to see what the twins are up to."

Hermione gave a distracted nod and waved her off.

Y/N stood from her seat and gave Adrian a small smile. She contemplated saying something more, but decided against it and waved to the two as she walked out of the library.

It was late in the evening on a school night, so most students were back in the common rooms by now and only a few roamed the halls. The lights flickered dimly as she passed by the seemingly endless rows of standing knights, each positioned to face the passing students.

It was quiet...for a bit.

Footsteps tapped roughly against the stone as a familiar head of curly black hair rounded the corner. Lee grinned widely at Y/N and started gesturing for her to run in the direction she came from.

"Go! Go! Go!" he exclaimed, quickly reaching her and tugging at her elbow. "Filch is right down the hall!"

She let out a momentary groan before hiking her bag up her shoulder and chasing after Lee, who was laughing much too heartily for her liking. They rounded the next corner soon after, at which point they were joined by a smirking redhead who had come running from the opposite hall.

"Nice of you to join us, Y/N," Fred commented, leading the two down towards the right.

"Do I want to know?" she asked, feeling a stitch form on her side as her breath became labored. "I cannot believe you two are making me run!"

The boys shared a laugh, only briefly glancing back to look at her before continuing their trek. It wasn't long after that they spotted another head of red; he held a piece of parchment in his hand and gestured for the three to slow down.
