The weeks leading up to October 30th were filled with excitement as the Hogwarts students eagerly awaited the arrival of Durmstrang and Beauxbatons. It was only natural then that the entire school conglomerate around the South entrance, facing the Black Lake and Hagrid's cabin, to watch as the schools arrived.
"Y/N, come on!" Lee urged, grabbing her by the hand and pulling her towards the bypass overlooking the lake. "They're just about to arrive!"
His excitement was contagious and had Y/N laughing along as they raced towards the front, where the rest of their friends already stood. Y/N grinned as George held an arm out towards her, silently indicating he wanted her to stand by him. She easily slipped into the space, making sure to shuffle closer to allow Lee to fill the spot on the other side of her.
The group all leaned over the stone ledge, watching right as a ripple appeared in the cloudy sky above the school. Suddenly, the winds picked up as a blurred haze of white and blue descended from above the clouds.
"Are those pegasi?" Y/N asked incredulously.
Large, extravagant carriages were being pulled by teams of pegasi. Each creature was rippling with muscles as they carried themselves and their cargo down to the grounds.
George glanced over at Y/N, smiling at the excitement that lit her eyes. Her body seemed to follow the winged creatures, resulting in her being fully bent over the rail on her tiptoes, eyes tracking their every movement. From beside her, Lee grabbed her by the shoulders, preventing her from fully falling.
"I've never seen one in person," she awed. "Do you think Hagrid will be taking care of them? He'll have to let me help, right?"
"Y/N, you're going to fall off and I'm not strong enough to pull you up," Lee grumbled, feeling as if he was the one thing stopping her from toppling over. "If you fall, you'll never get to meet them."
"I won't fall," she protested, watching as the horses landed with a slight trot before slowing to a stop. "Besides, George will catch me."
"I will?" George asked in amusement.
Y/N only looked away from the ground to give George a look. "You will," she said confidently.
Lee rolled his eyes at the interaction and pulled Y/N back, forcing her to stand a bit more upright. He huffed and shook his head, "You two are insufferable."
Before either one could respond to Lee's comment, a rumble spread out from the center of the Black Lake. The water began to churn and some students swore they saw the giant squid flailing away.
The ship appeared slowly at first — the bow and hull of the ship rising first, then the rest floating up dramatically. Waves crashed around it as the water attempted to settle from the abrupt disturbance. A massive ship, one whose colors starkly contrasted the Beauxbatons' carriages, sailed through the water, stopping only once it reached the shore.
"Come on," Angelina called out. "They're to come into the Great Hall for dinner."
"We should leave now to avoid the crowd," Alicia added.
The girls grabbed Fred, who looked back at the remaining trio. Lee pulled Y/N completely off the wall, pushed her into George, and then proceeded to push both in the direction of their friends.
"Well, you heard them," Lee said, urging them to follow. "Let's go before we get stomped on."
"We're not going to-"
Y/N's words fell flat as she listened to their classmates cheer in response to the other schools' entrances. Her eyes flit around the crowd, noting the way that some groups of friends were already beginning to run.
