I was hoping that Kakashi will wake me up when he's home or I'll wake up by the sound when he comes home. Between the two of us, if Kakashi had a keen sense of smell, I had a keen sense of sound. That's why I didn't set an alarm last night.
But instead of either two, I woke up at 10. I was greeted by the empty walls of the room
I walked into the living room
"Kakashi?" I called for him, there was no response
I expected Kakashi to be home already. But he didn't come yet
'Is he alright? Did something happen to him?' was the first thing that popped up in my head
That thought made me feel uneasy
I decided to meet Kurenai and ask her if she knows anything
I went to her home and knocked. She opened the door and seemed surprised to see me
"Kurenai Hi! Sorry I came unannounced"
"Haruka! Hi! Come in"
I walked in and saw Asuma sitting on the couch with some papers in his hand
"Asuma.. Hi.. Uh sorry, did I interrupt you guys? I can come back later" I said feeling a little awkward
"Oh no Haruka.. we were just discussing about the upcoming missions of our teams. You didn't interrupt anything" Kurenai said with red cheeks.
"Okay" I pressed my lips into a single line of smile. Asuma waved at me from the couch and smiled.
"Come and take a seat Haruka. Make yourself comfortable" Kurenai motioned me towards the couch. I sat down
"Are you alright Haruka? You seem very stressed" Asuma asked
"Kakashi isn't home yet Asuma"
"Maybe his mission got extended" Kurenai stated
"But he said he'd be back by this morning.. How do I know he's alright?" I asked
"We can check with hokage sama if he is aware of anything" Asuma said
"Thank you Asuma, that'll be of great help"
"Don't worry Haruka, I'm sure he'll be alright" Kurenai added
"I hope so Kurenai"
I stayed there for some time and decided to head back home
I came back home and tried to keep myself busy as an attempt to take my mind off any stressful things
After a few hours I heard someone knock the door
'Kakashi' my mind instantly voiced and I rushed to the door excited to see him
"Kakashi, finally you're ba~" I stopped in the middle when I saw it was Kurenai
"Hey Haruka" she smiled guilty
"Uh Kurenai, hi.. come in"
We sat down on the couch
"So any information?" I asked expectantly
"Yes.. like we thought Kakashi's mission got extended. The bridge is still under construction. As per hokage sama he will come back in 5 days"
"Phew! That's such a relief!" I rubbed the back of my hand on my forehead. Kurenai helped me prepare some tea and we went back to the couch
"I can see that. You know it's common for shinobi to have their missions extended right?"
"Yes I know that. But he promised he'll be back... One day my dad made a similar promise, and his mission got extended.. then he never came back, at least the way I expected" I said and looked down
