The ambulance siren broke my eardrums. I blinked hundreds of times to get rid of the incredibly bright light. I hugged my body with both hands.
And at this moment I realized, inside my chest cavity was empty, hollow. There was no pull of ribs that gnashed against my lungs when I took a breath. My pulse was weak, even gone. It was hard to say, but it seemed like I was dead.
The thing that made me sure about it was that I couldn't feel anything. The last thing I remembered, I choked on gum, but now I wasn't even chewing anything.
I tried to digest what was happening. My body was as light as cotton. However, I didn't float. When I stood up, my feet were still on the floor. I was still in the room, near the door. The noisy sound pushed into my ears which were almost like a funnel. People were crowding around something not far from where I was standing.
When my hand went forward to push them, something shocked me. Like an electric shock. They didn't change position, instead I was the one who was thrown. Finally I broke through the gaps in the crowd of people who turned out to be my neighbors; Mrs. Terresa, Mr. Gary, medical personnel and police. That's when another strangeness appeared before my eyes. What I saw was me. My body.
On my face there were clear reddish spots, as red as cherries. My lips turned blackish purple which emitted small disgusting bubbles. Blood was still dripping from my nose, but only a little. It was as if my nose was being plugged with cotton until the blood flowed slowly and a little.
My eyelids opened horribly. There was no longer my beautiful green cornea, Jason said, instead my eyes were now milky white. I was not real at all. I almost fainted seeing myself. I almost collapsed, but the force of gravity no longer applied to me now.
Is that really me? Then what is this standing? Are they real? Or is this just a dream?
Just as I entered, Mom - Lady Jane, appeared from the crowd. Somehow, her screams broke my heart. She almost hit me before the police pulled her away. Phil tried to calm Mom down. Her face was sad, but she didn't cry.
Where's Dad? I ran like the wind looking for Dad. The house was still a mess with ribbons and balloons. Dad was lying on the couch unconscious with several paramedics beside him.
Dad woke up. His eyes were swollen. When he saw the paramedics again, he started crying again. A doctor approached him.
"Save her! Quick!" Dad shouted at the doctor.
"I'm afraid I'm too late, Carlos. We're taking her to the hospital. The police are collecting data and evidence."
As soon as he finished speaking, small wheels approached. My body was on the bed being carried out of the house. Dad jumped up and chased after me. I wanted to pull him away, but my efforts failed again and my hands were electrocuted.
My body was covered with a white cloth up to my head. The people watching me looked horrified and pitiful. Mrs. Terresa was only wearing pajamas with slippers and her hair was tied up in a mess. Beside him stood Mr. Gary who covered his mouth with both hands. Mom and Phil got into the car.
As Dad, the paramedics and my body got into the ambulance, Jason came. He broke through the dark streets. Sometimes pedaling his skateboard, sometimes running. He was still wearing his pajamas. His face was wrinkled and confused.
There was no other time. I slipped into the ambulance too. And that's when the door closed. I sat next to my body, in front of Dad and the doctor. While Jason chased the ambulance on his skateboard.
