TWENTY-SEVEN

THE day of the trial made me nervous. Dad arrived early. Gracy held his hand. I was glad Dad had someone to cheer him on. They cheered each other on.

Phil came in pushing Mom in a wheelchair. Crazy Mary was under close guard by a psychiatrist. Even though she was crazy, she was a key witness. Jason came in with Katrine. His groggy eyes had lessened. He was more confident now. He held Katrine's hand, which cheered him on.

Lisa Cane was sentenced to 27 years in prison for premeditated murder by poisoning and possession of a sharp weapon under General Laws, Part IV, Title I, Chapter 265, section 28 and General Laws, Part I, Title XX, Chapter 140, section 129C.

This includes first-degree murder by poisoning and premeditated murder with a penalty of 20 years in prison, second-degree murder with a gun for attempted murder with a penalty of 5 years in prison and 4 years of probation, and a class 3 felony for illegal possession of a firearm with a penalty of 2-10 years in prison.

However, the only strong witnesses were the crazy Mary, my teenage friend Jason, Uncle Gary and Mrs. Teressa's suspicions that she had never liked Lisa. The evidence was the gum that Mr. Smith had kept which was now in Phil's hands, the pesticide in the Cane Florist warehouse and the gun. Because Lisa Cane was still young and had a sick mother to support, she was only sentenced to 23 years in prison.

Meanwhile, for the charge of murdering Mrs. Adeleine, there was no evidence or witnesses at all. Lisa covered up her crime neatly. Mary who was questioned just kept quiet and her gaze was blank during the trial. That meant Mrs. Adeleine would remain a wandering ghost until Jason managed to reveal Lisa Cane's crime later.

Mom was furious. She was wailing, but the judge had already banged his gavel three times. What could she do? Nothing. What could I do? Nothing either. I could only accept this decision. The important thing was that her crime had been revealed. She had been sentenced and would not marry Dad.

More importantly, everyone I loved had found their own happiness. I can go in peace now.

I am grateful that Mom has Phil who immediately hugged her. He paid for all my hatred dearly. He helped Jason reveal this crime. He turned the table, the bad guy is the good one.

Mom's curses turned into a heartbreaking outburst of tears. Jason sobbed and Katrine hugged him too. Dad took off his glasses, searched for something in his jacket and pants pockets, but he didn't find what he was looking for then Gracy held out a handkerchief for him. They hugged. Dad had Gracy. He would not be lonely anymore. Mom had El and Phil, Jason had Katrine. Everything was complete now.

The diffusion came. My body was as light as a feather. My feet were floating, I closed my eyes. The wind blew, pulling me slowly. I opened my eyes, checking once again that the people I loved were really safe. Yep. They were really safe and happy.

I was about to focus again on the source of the light that attracted me when my eyes stopped on the ocean blue eyes that were staring at me. I gasped in surprise, Jason could see me. Maybe he can see me or maybe he can only see the light.

Goodbye Jason, goodbye world.
