WHAT should I do now?
Oh, God... I promise, I will only reveal the cause of my death and Mrs. Adeleine's death to people. I will tell the truth and that's it. I will do anything so that I can tell Dad or Jason that I did not die by suicide. I was murdered.
In front of me, Mary was as still as a statue. Actually I was touched because it turned out that this crazy woman was worried about me. She had warned me about the disaster that would befall me, but Jason and I underestimated her and thought she was just a crazy woman. If only I could thank her....
My hands trembled approaching Mary's face. Her gaze was still blank with tears dripping down her cheeks. However, something strange happened. I was sucked into Mary's body. What happened? She sucked me in?
I pulled my hand away and was scared to death. Maybe this was like in the movies. I've heard that if you daydream too much, you can be possessed by a demon. Mary was arguably the most daydreaming person in Beverly. It was obvious because she was crazy. Besides, Mary had been crazy for a long time. Maybe I could possess her.
I tried to touch her face again. The pain was excruciating. Unbearable. Even though she kept sucking me, I was still electrocuted.
I fell down. Helpless. Desperate. This was the end. I had wrongly accused Mom's husband and instead put Dad in danger.
Dad....
I opened my eyes and got up. No matter how painful it was, it was nothing compared to Dad's life. I didn't want him to suffer. I didn't want him to end up in Lisa's hands.
I reached out my hand again and touched Mary's face. High voltage electricity shocked my hand, my entire body. I stiffened. Screamed. Bright light hit me. I gasped.
Pain. Heat burned me. I opened my eyes. My stomach was rumbling, my throat was as dry as sandpaper and my head was dizzy. The smell of urine was all around me and on my own body making me wince until I wanted to throw up.
Good. That means I'm human again. I looked down and I was in a whole body. Not a soul. This is Mary's body. Yes. I have a chance to tell people.
I stood up and ran like a cheetah. Mrs. Adeleine Smith had disappeared somewhere. Or maybe because I was already in a human body, I couldn't see her anymore.
I headed to Jason's house. When I passed my house, Mrs. Terresa was standing in front of her fence. She was shocked as if she had seen a ghost.
"M... M... Mary?"
I couldn't possibly say that I possessed Mary. It was impossible. My main goal, my promise to God was to only tell the truth to people, especially Jason or Dad. I only had one chance. Telling the truth to Mrs. Terresa would only make her panic and not know what to do.
Her bulldog kept barking at me. I think he knew. Mrs. Terresa's brow furrowed deeply. She reached into her skirt pocket and took out her cell phone.
"A mental hospital?" she said into the phone.
Oh, no. She called the mental hospital. I ran away from Mrs. Terresa with the hope that the mental hospital staff had not come and arrested Mary before my mission was successful.
Besides, I hoped Mrs. Terresa didn't meet Lisa so that she wouldn't be killed by her because she could be a witness. I had to leave her and tell Jason as soon as possible.
Now I needed evidence to catch Lisa Cane and put her in jail, but what? I couldn't let that criminal walk free and marry Dad. No!
I arrived at Jason's house, but it was empty. No one was home. Maybe Mr. Smith took the belt to the police station and looked for my evidence there. But where was Jason? I hated to assume the worst, but he must be on a date with Katrine. There was an invitation under the door. Damn it. It was Dad and Lisa's wedding invitation.
The asphalt road was cold on Mary's bare feet. The wind blew with a few light raindrops along with the fallen leaves making me shiver and hug Mary's body which was only wearing a tattered knee-length dress.
I walked and walked and walked, trying to find Jason with feelings of anxiety, anger, confusion and despair. Whatever he was doing with Kate, I didn't care. Jason was my only hope to prevent all this from happening. I had to tell Jason. Jason had to tell the truth. Dad could not marry Lisa.
I arrived in front of Gary's Supermarket. Jason came out of there and sure enough, he was with Katrine. However, it didn't look like they finished shopping. They didn't have any shopping bags.
If I approached him and told Jason the truth, he and Katrine would know that I was possessing Mary and that couldn't happen. So I acted like a crazy person and went to Jason."Hey, you!" I cringed.
Jason glared and hid behind Kate's shoulder.
Her body shook like an earthquake.
"Mary? What do you want!"
"Shush shush! Go away!" Katrine shooed her away.
Insolent. How dare she shoo me away. Ah, focus. I turned back to Jason again.
"Where's your friend?" I asked, still grimacing like a madman.
"My friend? Nadya?" Jason winced. "Why?"
I laughed loudly, like Mary often did. "She's dead, right?"
"Yes. She's dead! Come on! Go away!" Jason snapped. His body was shaking.
"I know why she died!"
"You know?" Katrine winced.
"Yes, she died because—"
"Let's go!" Jason pulled Katrine's hand and ran away.
I chased after them, but they were running too fast. Especially Jason. He was running like a demon was chasing him. He had always been afraid of Mary. This wasn't working. This wasn't going to work.
No. I couldn't waste any more time. I had to tell anyone, anyone, the cause of my death as soon as possible. I ran home.
