4th July, Monday

You lay comfortably in your bedsheets, heart racing as you waited for the right moment. Each second dragged, heightening your anxiety. Thoughts raced through your mind—What if you got caught? What if they decided to hurt Sayuri? Or Angel?

But the disgust you felt for them, for their manipulation, outweighed the fear. You had to do this.

The makeshift rope of towels you'd prepared earlier hung from the window, a clever trick you had pulled off by convincing Subaru to open it for you. A small smile tugged at your lips—clever was an understatement.

It was half past one. By now, everyone should be fast asleep. With a deep breath, you glanced down at your cat, Kyo, curled up on the bed.

I can’t leave him behind...

You gently stirred him awake, cradling him in your arms as you approached the window.

But Kyo, as if sensing the imminent danger, squirmed out of your hold and leapt from your arms, landing silently on the lawn below with graceful precision. You followed next, lowering yourself down the towel rope, wincing at the strain it put on your weakened body.

Your bare feet finally touched the soft grass, and for a brief moment, the cool sensation of freedom washed over you.

You crouched down, reaching for Kyo, but suddenly, the cat hissed—a low, menacing sound that froze your blood.

Someone was behind you.

"Well, well, what a bad doll you are," Akira’s voice drawled out from the darkness, sending a wave of terror through you.

The sharp click of a gun’s safety being released made your breath catch. His gun was trained on Kyo.

No

Your chest tightened as Akira’s smirk came into view, his predatory gaze locked on you. "Running away on the Fourth of July? How very patriotic," he teased, his voice laced with dark amusement.

"Akira…" you breathed, backing away slowly, your eyes darting between him and the gun in his hand.

" Don't you dare, " you whispered. Your voice was trembling but you couldn't let him know that. You stepped forward, positioning yourself between kyo and akira's gun.

Akira's head tilted slightly, his eyes filled with amusement. " Oh, so protective over a little fur ball.  And here I thought you'd be happy to see me. " His smirk widened but he didn't look so good.

" I am going home. Stop this nonsense akira. " you said. Keeping your voice steady despite the fear in your heart.

" Here I thought. I am your home. " He said it with such ease making you think he actually believed that. He made a click of disappointment before pulling you out of the way.

" Don't think you can actually leave unscathed. There will be consequences for your little attempt. " He smiled. A smile that makes your blood boil.

" Fine. " you said taking a deep breath in to gather your resolve. " But leave kyo out of it. He has nothing to do with this mess. "

" But where's the fun in that.? You protecting something makes me want to break it more. " His finger twitched around the trigger.

He smirked.

Stepping forward he whispered in your ear. " If you come in without any fight. I might let him live. "

The menacing sound sent chill down your spine but you considered it. As long as kyo lived.
