The morning light was a thin sliver seeping through the small crack in the wall of their quarters, barely enough to wake anyone. But Jade was already awake, lying on her side, watching Octavia sleep. The soft rise and fall of Octavia's chest, the way her hair tumbled over her face, the gentle peace that seemed to soften every line of her body — it was rare to see her like this, free from the weight of her title and responsibilities. Jade's heart swelled with a quiet, tender love, one that she could feel down to the marrow of her bones. She leaned in, pressing the softest kiss to Octavia's cheek, and then another, until Octavia stirred, a sleepy smile spreading across her lips.

"Morning," Octavia murmured, her voice thick with sleep, but there was already a spark of mischief in her eyes.

"Morning," Jade whispered back, her lips brushing against Octavia's as she spoke. Their mouths met slowly, lazily, like they had all the time in the world. The kiss was soft and sweet, like maple syrup, as if they could savor the taste of each other forever.

Jade's hand cupped Octavia's face, her thumb tracing the line of her jaw. Octavia let out a soft sigh, leaning into the touch, her lips moving against Jade's with a languid grace that sent shivers down Jade's spine. The world outside their door felt a million miles away, and neither of them was in any hurry to bring it closer.

"We should probably get up," Octavia said, the tone of her voice conveying how much she really didn't want to get up.

"We should," Jade agreed, same tone in her voice. But when Octavia began to sit up, Jade's arm snaked around her waist, pulling her back down onto the bed. With a mischievous grin, Jade rolled them over so that she was hovering over Octavia, her eyes sparkling with a sleepy but playful light.

"Gotcha," Jade whispered, before pressing another kiss to Octavia's lips, this one slow and lingering.

Octavia melted into it, her fingers tangling in Jade's curls, the taste of Jade's sleepy morning smile warm and comforting. For a moment, she forgot all about breakfast, all about getting up — she was lost in the feel of Jade's body against hers, the gentle press of her lips.

"We're going to be late," Octavia murmured against Jade's mouth, her words tinged with amusement.

Jade hummed, her fingers slipping through the dark waves of Octavia's hair. "I don't care," she replied, kissing her again, a little deeper this time, her lips lingering just a second longer. "And I don't think you do either."

Octavia laughed softly, a low, warm sound that Jade loved to hear. "You know me too well," she whispered, and Jade smiled against her lips, pulling her closer. Her tattooed hands, that Octavia loved so much, the way they made her feel safe and daring at the same time, ran languidly down Octavia's side, until Jade reached Octavia's thigh, which she hoisted up over her hip, causing Octavia to gasp, then moan as she wrapped her other leg around Jade's waist, a deep, smouldering heat burning low in her stomach.

Their kisses grew more insistent, a playful tug-of-war between passion and restraint. Octavia's hands found their way to Jade's back, fingers slipping beneath the fabric of her shirt, touching warm skin. Jade shivered, her breath catching as Octavia's nails grazed lightly, sending little sparks of pleasure through her.

"You're cold," Octavia teased, her lips moving to Jade's ear, nibbling gently. Jade let out a soft gasp, tilting her head back. "No, I'm not," she protested, though the way her body pressed closer to Octavia's betrayed her.

Octavia chuckled, her breath hot against Jade's neck. "Liar," she murmured, kissing the soft skin just beneath Jade's ear. Jade shivered again, her hands gripping Octavia's waist, pulling her closer, needing her nearer.

"Maybe just a little," Jade conceded, her voice a breathy whisper, her fingers tracing circles on Octavia's hips. "But I don't want to move."

"Then don't," Octavia replied, her mouth capturing Jade's again, their lips moving together in a slow, sensuous rhythm. They kissed as if they had all the time in the world, savoring every second, every touch, every sensation.

Jade felt the heat of Octavia's body against hers, felt her heart racing in her chest, and knew that there was nowhere else she'd rather be. Octavia's hands roamed over Jade's back, her touch firm and sure, leaving trails of fire in their wake. Jade let out a soft moan, her own hands moving over Octavia's sides, her fingers brushing against bare skin, feeling the taut muscles beneath.

Time seemed to slow down, every second stretching out into infinity, as they lost themselves in each other. Octavia's kisses grew deeper, hungrier, and Jade matched her, every kiss a promise, every touch a declaration. The bunker, with its cold walls and harsh lights, seemed to disappear, leaving only the two of them, wrapped in the warmth of their love.

When they finally pulled back, both of them were breathless, their cheeks flushed, their hearts pounding in their chests. Octavia's lips curled into a grin, her eyes twinkling with a familiar spark of mischief. "You think it's too late to take a sick day?" she asked, her voice low and teasing. "Maybe we could go again..."

Jade laughed, a warm, delighted sound, her hand moving to caress Octavia's shoulder. "Tempting," she admitted, leaning in to kiss Octavia's forehead, "but you know we can't. We have a responsibility... no matter how much I'd love to stay in bed with you all day."

Octavia pouted, a playful expression on her face. "You're no fun," she teased, but there was affection in her voice, a deep and abiding love.

Jade just smiled, her eyes soft as she gazed at Octavia. "Oh, I'm plenty of fun," she replied, pressing another quick, teasing kiss to Octavia's lips before pulling herself up, taking Octavia's hands in hers, and pulling her out of bed. "Come on, let's get ready for the day. I'll see you when we get home, and maybe then we can pick up where we left off."

Octavia sighed dramatically but let Jade pull her to her feet, their fingers entwined. "Fine," she grumbled, but her smile betrayed her.

They moved around their quarters in comfortable silence, getting dressed, preparing for the day.

Jade glanced at Octavia occasionally, her heart swelling with love. When they were both ready, they met by the door, and Jade leaned in for one last kiss, slow and sweet.

"I can't even remember the last time we had morning sex," Octavia admitted, which made Jade laugh.

"And that's a crime!" Jade cried, her deep, sweet laugh filling the room. "Clearly we need to do it more."

"Clearly," Octavia repeated, teasing. Jade smiled, that charming, knowing smile, and leaned down to kiss her wife.

"I love you," she whispered against Octavia's lips.

Octavia smiled, her eyes bright. "I love you too," she replied softly, and Jade knew that whatever the day brought, they would face it together.

They stepped out into the hallway, hand in hand, both of them filled with a quiet joy that they carried with them. Today was going to be a really good day.
