CHAPTER FIVE.
WEATHER GENIUS
Exhaustion. That was all that Kit felt when she woke up the next morning. From Boone's drunk rambling to her, asking her a million different little questions, to the constant thoughts running through her mind about the fact that Kate was here. Kit had barely slept. 24 hours ago it had been 5 years since she'd seen her. Now they were at the same motel and Kit couldn't stop thinking about it.Boone was fast asleep and snoring when Kit left the room. He'd collapsed in bed the minute he got back last night and spent an hour asking Kit the most random of questions. Kit had raised her eyebrows and told him to go to sleep but he wouldn't stop asking. When she finally decided to answer the questions, she turned her head and he was out cold. At least it got her out of that.
They had another hour or so until they had to get up because it was only about 5:30 AM. Kit, however, couldn't stay in that room any longer. She needed to get out of her own head.
The sun was still down for the most part which meant the only light was coming from the dimly lit motel and the street. Kit was quiet, trying to be careful to not wake anyone, she knew the walls were thin.
Coffee, that was her first step. The diner nearby had some and luckily it was open 24 hours. She zipped up her hoodie, pulling her hood up to stop the coolness of the wind from hitting her face. She rubbed her eyes trying to ignore the wariness coming from them and walked slowly towards the diner. Footsteps were coming up behind her and that caught her attention. Who else was up at this hour?
"Kit," Javi's voice stopped her and she turned her head in surprise. Javi was already dressed, wearing his STORMPAR uniform. His hair was done and he looked more awake than ever. It was the complete opposite of the boy she'd known 5 years ago who begged for 5 more minutes of sleep and hated having to wear pants. He walked towards her and she let out a sigh. She should've been expecting that he'd want to talk to her alone. She had just hoped that maybe it would be later and not 5:30 in the morning.
"Javi," she nodded her head and waited for him to catch up. She was too tired to argue. "What's up?" That was the wrong thing to say.
"What's up? really that's all you're going to say?"
Kit could see him raise his eyebrows, the anger in his voice was dull but it was evident.
"Javi it is 5:30 in the morning can we please not do this now?" She shoved her hands in her pockets and looked at him. It was too early for this shit.
"No. It can't wait," Javi's tone surprised her. It wasn't just anger. He sounded genuinely hurt. "I called you and asked for your help to get Kate to come back. You said you were working." he sounded accusatory.
"I am working," she didn't miss a beat when she responded. She really didn't want to fight with him.
"Working? Here? With the Hillbillies from Hell?"
