CHAPTER SEVEN.

The first thing Kit noted when they arrived at the rodeo was that it was loud and crowded as hell. From the country music blaring from the speakers around to the people cheering from the stands while the events took place, it felt like everyone had decided that this was the place to spend their night.
Kit didn't blame any of them, there was something about the atmosphere of a rodeo that always made things feel better. Maybe it was because it reminded her of when she'd first met Kate, or maybe it was because it reminded her of the dreams she used to have. Either way Kit loved the rodeo. Even though she hadn't actually been to one in nearly a year.
Walking towards an empty spot in the stands, the minute they sat, Tyler had made an excuse to leave. He said he had to get something for them to drink and would be back in a minute. Kit had narrowed her eyes while both she and Kate had tried to tell him he didn't have to, they were too late. By the time they got the words out, he was already walking away. Which meant that Kate and Kit were now alone.
Kit wasn't going to be the first one to speak. The words Kate had said to her earlier in the day were still at the back of her mind and although she knew Kate likely hadn't intended to hurt her feelings, it still stung to think that Kate thought she would ever take advantage of someone in need.
So Kit knew that if she spoke first it would come out in a way that she didn't want, and the last thing she wanted after today was to argue with her.
Kate didn't want to speak either for the same reason. She knew what she had said was wrong, both because she hadn't known and because she should've known that Kit would never. She just couldn't figure out the words to apologize, and she wasn't sure if Kit would even accept it if she did.
The national anthem finished playing and Kate looked towards Kit. Her eyes wandered up and down, noticing for the first time that she was wearing a sundress and she paused.
Kate hadn't seen her wear one since she'd been back so she had to admit she was a little surprised to see it. Her heart felt like it did a little flip as she looked. It was an old dress and Kate knew that for sure, because she used to tell Kit that it was her favorite one that she'd wear.
For a second she thought of the fact that Kit had also worn the hat she bought her today and she tried to not overthink it. It wasn't like Kit was wearing this stuff for her. She just felt like wearing it, right? Either way Kit looked beautiful and Kate couldn't help but notice.
When Kit turned back to her, she felt her cheeks heat up and she looked away quickly as if she was hoping that Kit didn't notice. If she did, she didn't say anything.
