UNIVERSE: Well AU (Three is the human, Four is the monster)

Waking up next to someone he liked was the best part of SMG4's morning. The bed was big enough for 2 people to sleep in comfortably, but SMG4 still often woke up to find himself surrounded in a hug from SMG3.

Of course, he could never tell Three when he caught him. What would become of their friendship?

"S-M-G-4!" Mario said to SMG4 over the phone, "Mario found a solution!"

"Huh? To what?"

"Your living situation! With a little of Mario's very legal convincing, he got Luigi to offer a camper!"

-no. No, he wished he could tell Mario that he...

Oh. It was a dream, then, Four realized, trying his hardest to remember. This must be important!

The thing that annoyed him most about his current state wasn't how humans saw him as a monster, or how it was hard to keep track of all his limbs at once. It was the memory loss.

He just... either couldn't remember, couldn't remember well, or his memories felt off. Like they had been messed with- he knew he wasn't always a Lapisblood, and his transformation couldn't have been long ago. Sometimes, though, it wasn't easy to pick out the memories that were "wrong."

It annoyed him to no end how he couldn't put names to half the faces he saw in his past, or remember some words. It took extra effort to even speak the language he'd lived 90% of his life speaking. And... and it was just all terrible, and the world expected him to just live like this? Not caring about his past life?

Mario. One name from the memory... what was the other one again?

he just couldn't remember...

Think- think, Four, think! He-

.

-SMG3...?

SMG3 woke up in his usual bed, feeling a little bit strange. 

The magical warmth that had long faded from his hands, after SMG4's disappearance/death, was... back.

This definitely wasn't right. For that to happen, SMG4 would have to be nearby, and... that meant he wasn't dead. And it meant that he had probably been looking for SMG3 for a long time, but not given up. For some reason.

...

This was really, really weird and kind of life-changing to think about.
