Silverpaw felt the wind blow through her fur as she walked beside Rosecloud. They were patrolling by the ThunderClan border. It had been a few days after the trip to Hightstones. Silverpaw had decided not to think to much about what Duskstar had said until she knew more.

"Can you scent any ThunderClan cats?" Rosecloud questioned. Silverpaw shook her head and opened her mouth to scent the air. "No ThunderClan cat has passed through here in days." she replied. It was strange, considering they usually marked the border consistently. Besides Silverpaw, Rosecloud lifted her golden tabby head and scented the air as well.

"Your right. Good work." she meowed. Silverpaw felt delighted that her mentor had complimented her. They both continued along the border, scenting the air every few moments to make sure there had been no tresspassers. After a while, Silverpaw suggested,  "Maybe we should check the Shado-"

She felt something peirce her paw, and she let out a yowl of pain.
Rosecloud turned to see what had happened. "What's wrong!?" Silverpaw whimpered as she lifted her paw. Rosecloud examined it an let out a amused meow. "You made it sound as if a badger clawed you." she said stiffling a mrrow of laughter. "Its only a thorn."

Silverpaw looked at her paw. Sure enough. she saw a thorn driven deep into her pad. "Oh. Thorns really can sting though." she mewed, lowering her head in embarrassment. Really? A thorn Silverpaw!? "Come on, let's get you to Birdsong." Silverpaw nodded in compliamce but she felt the same prickle of discomfort, as her mentor mentioned the medicine cat.

Birdsong had been eyeing her as of she were an enemy warrior treading through camp, ever since she had returned from Moonstone. She wondered if something was troubling the silver-gray she-cat. Maybe she's heard the elders gossiping about me and Foxpaw being kitty-pets, Silverpaw thought sadly. She quickly pushed her thoughts aside, and looked around.

The moors were were lush and green since it had been raining quite a bit. Leaf fall would be arriving soon. She winced as she felt a sharp pain in her paw, and she leaned to one side. "My paw still stings." Silverpaw said. "Don't worry were almost at camp." Rosecloud meowed.

After a few more minutes they were walking through the gorse entrance of camp. Silverpaw limped over to the medicine den with Rosecloud. Birdsong was with Lillyleaf, her apprentice who had just received her name from StarClan. Birdsong looked up from a stack of herbs. "Is everything all right?" she asked, wearily. "Yes-- W-well kind of-- I just got a thorn stuck in my paw." Silverpaw replied trying not to make a big deal. It was a thorn for Star Clan's sake.

"Oh, alright." Birdsong mewed. Rosecloud meowed goodbye and padded over to the fresh-kill pile. Silverpaw waited for Birdsong to come and get the thorn out of her padd. Lillyleaf came instead. "Isn't Birdsong coming?" Silverpaw asked. Lillyleaf was inspecting her paw, and said, "She said that she has to go find more feverfew. Were almost all out."
Moonpaw couldn't help thinking that the medicine cat was trying to avoid her. "Ok, hold still." Lillyleaf said. Moonpaw let out a high pitched meow as Lillyleaf took the thorn out of her paw. "Oww! That hurts!" Moonpaw meowed. Lillyleaf spat the thorn out of her mouth and grabbed some cobwebs. "Don't worry, you'll survive." she joked.
Moonpaw laughed, meowed thank you to Lillyleaf, and padded away to the fresh-kill pile. Runningpaw and Foxpaw, were out battle training, and Sunpaw was on a hunting mission. Suddenly, Moonpaw saw Birdsong padding back into camp. Wasn't she supposed to collect herbs, Moonpaw wondered. Birdsong wasn't carrying herbs. Moonpaw got up and walked towards the silver-gray she-cat; more sure than ever that she was avoiding her.
"Birdsong?" Moonpaw called. The medicine cat froze and turned her head. Her eyes narrowed. "Birdsong, is everything okay?" Moonpaw asked. "Yes. I'm fine." Birdsong mewed as gently as she could. Moonpaw saw the she-cat's tail twitch with uncertainty. Suddenly, Moonpaw remembered her dream at Moonstone, and what Duskstar had said. Birdsong sighed, and said, "Follow me."
Moonpaw followed the gray she-cat through a narrow entrance through the back of the nursery. Birdsong led Moonpaw to a dip in the moor, were there was a small crack in the hill side. "In here." Birdsong mewed. Moonpaw stuck her head in the opening and saw an empty cave with a small stream running through it.
"What is this place?" Moonpaw asked. Birdsong sat down besides the stream and said, "I come here when I just need peace and quiet." The medicine cat certainly looked relaxed down here. Her eyes grew serious as Moonpaw sat down. "I guessed that you would start noticing my suspicion." Birdsong began.
Moonpaw sighed. "At first I thought that you didn't like the fact that me and Foxpaw are probably half kitty pet. But, I guess this has something to do with my dream at Moonstone." Birdsong nodded. Moonpaw shivered as she remembered Duskstar's words. The moon will light the way through the darkest hours.
"Well, I woke up in this clearing," Moonpaw began explaining.
