The wind howled across the open moor, as three cats forced their way through the snow.
"We have to go back!" yowled a dark gray tom, whose fur was caked in snow. "Brightstar said to patrol the borders, even in this weather." meowed a sandy gray she-cat. A light brown tabby tom next to her meowed in agreement.
After a few moments, the dark gray tom sighed. "Your right Mistpelt, let's keep going."he meowed grimly. Soon the cats were passing a massive stone jutting out of the ground, which was know to them as Outlook Rock. "Wait," yelled a light brown tabby. "There's something over there!" He yowled as he bounded towards the base of Outlook Rock. "What did you find, Hawkwing?" Mistpelt asked.
Hawkwing's eyes were wide and his tail was bushed out with surprise. "Smokefur! Mistpelt! Get over here, hurry!" Hawkwing screeched. Mistpelt and Smokefur raced over, to find Hawkwing crouched beside two tiny kits. One was a ginger tom, and the other was a tabby and white she-cat. They were both mewling with fear and confusion. "We need to get them back to camp fast!" said Mistpelt, as she grabbed the little tom and began running back to camp.
Smokefur grabbed the tiny she-kit; but Hawkwing stayed where he was. "I'm going to stay here and see if the mother is around." he mewed hastily. Smokefur nodded and raced after Mistpelt.
Hawkwing waited until the two warriors were gone, and then he turned to scent the air. He sighed. "Come out Willow, I know your here."
A heart beat later a sleek tabby she-cat with piercing green eyes appeared from behind Outlook Rock. Her eyes were filled with sorrow. "I'm sorry I brought them so soon. My Twoleg has barely fed me... the kits are starving." she meowed warily. Hawkwing understood. He knew how worried Willow had been lately. When they meet a few days ago to exchange news, Willow had arrived trembling in fear because the kits were barley mewling.
"Don't worry ," said Hawkwing, as he nuzzled Willow's cheek. "The Clan will take great care of them, and so will I." he vowed. Willow let out a purr of relief. "Thank you Hawkwing." she said softly. "I have to go... goodbye. I love you." she whispered. "I'll take care of the kits." Hawkwing said once more. "Goodbye." he meowed sadly. Willow turned and began to run back to Twoleg place.
Hawkwing soon began padding back to camp with a heavy heart. His paws felt as heavy as stone. I can think of names for the kits, he thought. The ginger tom will be, Foxkit, he decided. Suddenly a name for the little she-cat appeared in his mind. I'll call her... Silverkit.
Soon, he was in camp and made his way to the nursery to give his kits their new names... Clan cat names.
