Kyra woke up earlier than usual, her internal clock nudging her awake well before her alarm. Although she had a training session later in the morning, the anticipation for it was overshadowed by the lingering effects of the previous night. The events of yesterday replayed in her mind, leaving her with a mix of embarrassment and frustration. The small hesitation she had felt about inviting Blair to her bed now seemed like a chasm that she couldn't bridge.
Determined to make things right, Kyra got out of bed with a sense of urgency. She wanted to see Blair immediately, make her breakfast, and spend some time together before heading off to training. The more she thought about it, the more she couldn't understand why she had hesitated. The intensity of her feelings for Blair had been overwhelming, and now she was left grappling with the consequences.
She shuffled to the bathroom, hoping the warmth of the shower would help her shake off the unease from the previous night. Once dressed, she headed for the living room with a growing sense of anticipation. The soft morning light filtering through the curtains offered a calming touch, but her heart sank when she saw the couch was empty, the blanket folded neatly.
Kyra's steps quickened as she moved through the house, checking each room with mounting anxiety. The absence of Blair's presence was unsettling. She finally made her way to the kitchen, hoping to find some clue.
The kitchen was as empty as the rest of the house. Kyra's eyes scanned the countertops and landed on a small piece of paper. With trembling fingers, she unfolded it. The note was written in Blair's neat handwriting:
Hello,
I needed to go this morning. I'm sorry for not waking you; I didn't want to disturb you. I'll text you soon.
Take care,
Blair
Kyra's heart sank as she read the note. Blair had left without a word, and the note felt like a painful reminder of the distance between them. Kyra stood there for a moment, feeling the weight of her hesitation and the missed opportunity to make things right. The emptiness of the house seemed more profound now.
Crushing the note in her hand, Kyra's mind raced with regret. She had hoped to fix things, but now she was left grappling with the silence and the void left by Blair's absence.
Just then, the doorbell rang, jolting Kyra from her thoughts. Her heart skipped a beat, hoping it might be Blair coming back. She hurried to the door, only to be met by Caitlin and Katie. Katie's amused grin made Kyra's smile falter slightly.
"Oh, I can see you wanted to see us, mate," Katie teased, giving Kyra a playful shove as she walked in.
Kyra offered a weak smile, not in the mood for their usual banter. She let them follow her into the kitchen, where Caitlin, always perceptive, noticed her downcast expression.
"Are you okay? Did you sleep well?" Caitlin asked gently.
"Yeah, all good," Kyra replied, trying to sound upbeat. "What are you two doing here?"
Katie handed her a coffee, the warm cup a small comfort. "We came to pick you up for training. We got you coffee on the way."
Kyra took the coffee with a grateful nod, savoring the warmth for a moment before setting it down. She quickly grabbed her things and headed upstairs. When she returned, Caitlin and Katie exchanged concerned glances but chose not to press her.
The drive to the training center felt interminable, each mile stretching out as Kyra's thoughts replayed the events of the morning. When they finally arrived, Kyra bolted from the car, eager to escape the confined space and the lingering questions.
