The first light of dawn crept through the thin curtains, slowly making their way to the bed where Akanksha lay peacefully asleep. As the sunlight touched her face like a lover's caress, a soft smile played on her lips. She stretched her arms reaching for the comfort of the man who dominated her dreams.

"Maan." Her voice was filled with love and longing.

As she turned out and the warmth vanished, her eyelids fluttered open, as the smile faded from her face. She rushed down from the bed, her heat racing as she recalled the events of the night before. The gentle breeze surrounded her, taking her into a comforting embrace. The tears that streamed down her eyes, were the testament of her stuffing.

Akanksha closed her eyes against the tears. She could not fall weak. The altercation with Phoenix left her restless. For a second she believed that the man behind the mask was her husband. Her fingers traced her brow, where she could still feel the warmth of her lover's kiss. She knew it was a dream, but Akanksha could not dismiss it. She looked back at the bed, hoping to find evidence but all she found was rumpled pillows and discarded linen.

She was so desperate to have him back that she was conjuring up in her imagination. Maan was lost to her forever, it was time she accepted that, but her heart refused to acknowledge the reality. She closed her eyes, trying to regain control. The phoenix was not her Maan. What she felt when he touched her, was her mind playing tricks. If it was her Maan, he would never have stayed away for eight years. He would not have let his family suffer.

It was only her wistful thinking. She got up, determined to put the events behind her, but then she gasped out loud. She remembered falling down unconscious on the floor, and yet she woke up on the bed. She looked around, the room was no longer in tanters, someone had taken the trouble to set it right. Even the door lock was fixed. She rushed down to check on the main door, and was surprised to find it securely locked. A new door was in place of the broken one. Someone had taken pain to get it fixed overnight.
