I open the door and see Edwin and Bursen's annoying faces.
"We're only here because somebody is afraid to open his gym locker and find a million roaches in there." Edwin rolls his eyes at Bursen. "Honestly, I don't even know why I'm here."
"You do know. You're here to stick up for your fiery, freckled friend if things get out of hand. Which they can, if you refuse to cooperate." I give him a smug smile.
"You disgust me." Edwin scowls just as Lia comes in. He then pastes a fake smile. "So, what do you want us to do?"
"You brought your laptops right?" Lia stares at the bag in Edwin's hand.
"Yeah, why?" Bursen asks, looking a little less scared than before.
"I'll be asking the questions here!" Lia yells at him, and he shuts up, looking frightened now.
"Hey, would you quit being mean to my friend? We're doing work for you, the least you could do, is tell us what and why." Edwin frowns at her.
"You don't deserve to know anything. You were useless up till now. So just be grateful we're paying you a copper each, cause it's better than nothing!" She pauses to let that sit in then continues. "Now come sit on these chairs and we'll tell you what exactly you are going to do."
"Geez, I could get paid much more just to serve a table at a diner." Edwin mumbles.
"Save it." I roll my eyes at him and go sit next to Lia. Honestly, I didn't like how my plan was going so far, but what could I really do in this situation.
Lia tells them what they are supposed to do and explains our cover story of why. They open their laptops and she asks if there are any questions. Bursen, shyly raises his hand. Wow, he's acting so pathetic compared to the first thing he said when we all met.
"So, how exactly did you think we could know how to do this when we just met yesterday? And why do you think there's a camera in the smoke alarm?" He asks very quietly.
"You guys were wearing computer science t-shirts, one can only assume." She rolls her eyes at him. "And we think there is-why am I answering that? We just suspect so, so do your job and leave." She sighs. "Any other IMPORTANT questions or concerns?"
Edwin speaks up after sitting quietly for a while. "Let's say there is a camera in there, how would we get it out, and how would we delete the footage from the other end when we have no idea who planted it there. And how would we be able to prevent that in there. And if there is a camera, wouldn't it be illegal to take it out when this isn't your private property? It's an apartment complex, it's illegal to take things out that belong to the property."
"Ok, genius, what do you suggest we do then? How would you feel if someone planted a camera in your apartment?" Lia scoffs.
"Well first of all, I don't live in an apartment so can't really sympathize there, and second, why don't you just tell the managers that you think there's a camera in there and ask if it was intentionally there or not. There's a possibility that they put it in all the apartments, but in different places." Edwin explains. And to be honest, I really want to kick his leg under the table to just make him work. I want to hurt him so bad and destroy his stupid ego.
"Look, Eden, the whole last year, there was no mention of camera stuff till now, ok nerd? And we can't tell the owners for private reasons. So can you please just do your thing so we don't have to be in this situation for any longer?" I groan. I really just want to move on from this. And why in the world does Edwin know so much about this and overanalyzing it. This is stupid. Just stupid.
"'Eden'?" Edwin looks up at me from his computer screen with an amused expression. "Now that's something I don't get called a lot." God, I made a fool of myself. Ah whatever, that was fun I guess.
