Jess POV
A year later:
I was finally done with my exams and decided to visit home, I had told Sam about my visit and she came to pick me up at the airport with the most adorable looking Clare, she had on a pretty little cat cap, pink in color and a coat and jeans. She looked like the cutest little person and she was drooling all over her face. I instantly grabbed Clare from her mom and kissed her chubby little cheeks, she giggled at the noises that I was making and I couldn't help the smile on my face.
"Sam, you have the cutest baby that I have ever seen. She looks much prettier than she does In photos, how do you not eat her up?" Sam laughed at this and hugged me, careful not to squash her baby between us. "Trust me Jess, she has her moments when you need a break. I have missed you so much, you look much prettier now, this year away has done wonders for you." "why thank you. I have indeed missed you to, video chats just isn't the same as seeing you." I said as I walked towards the exist, the airport is quite noisy and I had a headache, I was tired and felt a bit jetlagged but I really wanted to see my mom and little Jared.
Sam and I were seated in her car while Clare was strapped up in her car seat in the backseat , she was mumbling some incoherent words while playing with her chew toy.
"So, have you met any hot hunks that has caught your attention yet?" Sam asked, "No. well yes I have but none of them stood out and I don't plan on wasting my time with any of them and getting distracted. So I'm just playing the avoidance game." I said as I turned the radio up a little, not a lot but just enough so that I could hear the lyrics properly. There was no point in hearing a song if the lyrics of it just flew right over your head.
Sam and I caught up some and then she dropped me off at home, we never told mom that I'll be home four days before Christmas as she thought I would be arriving two days before Christmas but Sam made sure that mom would be home by the time that she dropped me. I kissed her on her cheek and then leaned to the back and kissed little Clare before I got out of the car.
I walked up towards the front door and rang the bell about five minutes later, the door opened and Jared jumped on me. He looked much bigger than I remembered and he must have gotten dads looks because he looks like his soon to become a heartbreaker. I kissed him on his cheeks and told him to be quiet, we heard mom asking who was at the door and I told Jared to think of a lie. "No one mom, it was for the house next door, the package man got the wrong address." I was so surprised at Jared's ability to lie so easily, when did he learn to think so quickly?
I closed the door behind me and walked to the kitchen where I knew mom would be, she stood with her back towards me as she took cookies out of the oven. I waited for her to put the tray down and then I cleared my throat. "hello mother, it smells quite lovely in here."
I said as she turned around. She gasped as she threw her hands up "oh my! I am so pleased to see you. I had no idea that you would be here." She said as she hugged me like she was trying to cut off my air calculation. I wrapped my arms around her and couldn't help the tears that fell from my eyes. I have really missed my mom and I tried to stay strong but now that I'm in her arms, I just realized how much I missed her."how have you been?" mom asked me as she held me at arms-length.
"I've been good , I just really missed you and Jared so much. How has everything been?" I asked as mom got back to baking, I washed my hands to ice the cookies. Jared came to sit at the kitchen island and is drinking milk while eating some cookies that mom gave him.
We caught up and then mom ordered me some food before sending Jared off to bed, I haven't forgotten that he turned 11 while I was gone so this year I've gotten him three gifts, I have gotten myself a job while going to college and saved some money for moms and Jared's gifts.
I kissed Jared good night and then started digging in , mom came back and sat across me. "Have you found any interesting guy?" mom asked and I wondered why that is so important to everyone. "No mom, I'm not interested at the moment. So tell me how is work and how are you managing everything?" I asked trying to steer the direction away from the conversation about my none apparent love life.
