Red's POV

I was lying on my back, staring up into a black void. I slowly got up to find my surroundings were all black, the only exceptions being me and a screen-like hole through which I saw my mother. I saw her bend down to whisper something in my ear, "Why don't you show Mommy what you think of people telling you who you are? If you do it right, I might actually be proud of you." Her voice echoed around the black room. I watched as my view of sight rose and moved towards a blue-haired beauty. I saw a look of concern on her face as she spoke, "Red... what's wrong?" Her divine voice filled the room. I wanted to say, "Oh, nothing, just that your ex is crazy," but instead I heard my voice say, "You are," my words filled with disgust. What was happening? That's not what I wanted to say. "Red... this isn't you," Chloe said, hurt in her eyes. "And you know who I am? You say you understand me. You say you love me, you say I'm strong, that I'm beautiful, that I deserve happiness. You say others have no right to define who I am, but that's all you do." My mouth dropped open. Why was I saying this? Why couldn't I control my own body?

I watched myself advance towards the stunned princess. "Red, I only tell you those things because you won't tell yourself," her voice cracking, she took a step back from me. I don't understand what's happening, my voice cut through the room. "And you just know who I am and what I need, don't you?" I said, hate running through my words. I watched as she took another step back. "Red, what's happening to you?" she asked, desperation in her eyes. I took another step forward. "I let you in. I listened to your lies. I listened when you told me my mother changed. And what happened?" My arm rolled up my sleeve, showing her the words "love ain't it." I didn't want to watch anymore. "Re-" she started, but I cut her off. "No, it's my turn to talk," I said. "I listened when you told me people loved me. I listened when you told me you loved me," my voice paused. "If you don't recall, you hit me too?" Fake pity in my voice. "You're no better!" Disgust filled my words as I stepped forward. Chloe stepped back, her back hitting the lockers. I hear my mother laughing behind me.

"Fine Red, what you say is true. But you've told me yourself that you felt safe with me, that you loved me. How can you ignore that?" She said, hope filling her words. "Simple, really... I lied. I had to figure out what's happening." I stepped forward, but before I could, I heard a snap sound and I was left in pure darkness. I need to fix this. I looked around the darkness and took a few steps. Still, the blackness continued. I heard the snap again and turned to find the screen was back. I saw Chloe staring at me wide-eyed. I ran to the screen and saw my arm extend out into a powerful punch. I felt as though time was slowing. "Please let this hit my mother, please."my punch hits Chloe square in her chest. She slams against the locker with a defining thud. Her head recoils and then hits the locker. "No... CHLOE," I say out loud, running towards the screen and hitting it as hard as I could. I don't know what I was thinking would happen, but I was thrown away from the screen, pain jolting through me as I fell to the floor. I groaned as I got up, watching as Chloe's eyes closed, but not before seeing a split-second of hope before she slumped over. I stared as Chloe's body lay there. Whatever was happening, I need to help her. I just need to figure out how to get out. I looked around the black void, but I found nothing to suggest there was a way out. As far as I could see, I was trapped.
