A/N its a monumental moment we finely made it to graduation day

Red's POV

I woke up to a dim light, checking the clock on my nightstand. It read 4:54 AM. Chloe had told me we didn't have to be up until seven, so I tried to fall back to sleep. But something was keeping me awake. Finally accepting that I wouldn't get any more rest, I got up and changed while Chloe slept. Looking out the window, I could see pretty far. Maybe that's why I chose a room so high up. I felt safer up there. The view also reminded me of all the possibilities in the world and how much of it I had missed for more than half my life. That world is another reason to want my freedom, my own life away from my mother. My mother was the only thing keeping me from living my life, the only person making me fear life itself. She's the only one who could ruin everything I tried to build up. That's exactly what I'm worried about. I'm worried that in the end, I will always be her toy, just another servant in her life. My growing nerves started to give me a stomach ache. I walked away from the window and sat on my bed. It was now 6:12, two hours by that window felt like only minutes.

I grabbed my new sketchbook from my table and flipped through it, landing on the last page. I only had one more part of it to complete. So, to pass the time, I started to work on it. After a few moments, which was apparently a whole hour, Chloe's alarm snapped me out of my work. Looking over, I found that Chloe was already out of bed stretching. She looked over at me, a look of concern on her face. "How long have you been up, Red?" she asked, coming to sit next to me. "Not long," I whispered. "Red? How long?" she pressed. "4:54," I mumbled. I heard her sigh. "What are you working on?" she asked, looking over my shoulder. "I think you already know. You would have seen it putting the note in my book," I mumbled. "Red, I didn't look. I just put the paper and put it on your bed," she said in a calm voice. Glancing towards her, I could tell she was telling the truth. "Fine... I don't really know what it is... the way I see life," I said, finally putting my pencil down. "It's perfect, Red," Chloe said proudly. "It is?" I mumbled, looking down at the black and white scene, the people, the buildings, the landscape, the only pop of color being a big red and blue glass-like heart in the center. "I just drew what I felt," I whispered before putting the book on my table, giving it a good long stare, hoping that wouldn't be my last piece. "It's beautiful, Red. I'll see you after I get ready?" she asked. I nodded as she headed off. Sitting on my bed and staring out at the now bright world, it's amazing how something so beautiful can change so quickly.

I heard the bathroom door click before seeing Chloe step out. "Ready, Red?" she said with determination in her eyes. "Uh, I guess," I said, standing up as Chloe left the room. I stopped at the doorway, looking in the room before following Chloe out. As we entered the courtyard for the announcements before breakfast, we found our seats in the front row. Sitting down, we gazed at the stage, waiting for Uma to come out. When she finally did, the crowd grew silent. "Hello, students! Congrats on finishing your first year at Auradon," she said, pausing to let the kids cheer. I sat there, staring off into the distance, while Chloe clapped before taking my hand once again. "As all of you know, your parents will be coming around 12 for the ceremony. I want everyone to know that the school will be protected and on high alert for any trouble." I could feel Uma's gaze land on me before she continued. After she was finally done, Chloe and I left in silence for the cafeteria.

"Alright, Red. Last day, what do you want to eat?" she asked, glancing at me. "I'm not really hungry, Chloe," I murmured. "Are you alright, Red?" she asked, concern in her eyes. "Yeah... yeah, just nervous, that's all," I said, sitting down. Chloe gave me one more look to make sure before going in line. Yet again, I couldn't be left alone, ever. "Red, is it?" a soft voice rang in my ears. "Who's asking?" I mumbled. "The name's Dawn," I looked up to find a girl with sunset hair sitting across from me. "What do you want... Dawn?" I said, my guard up. "I wanna apologize," I looked up. "For what?" I asked, still on edge. "My sister was an ass-hole. I'm sorry she kissed your girlfriend," I stared at her wide-eyed. "Your sister is Jade?" I asked, dumbfounded. Dawn nodded. "Well, uh, thanks, I guess," I mumbled as Chloe came over. "Oh, hi Dawn, how are you?" Chloe asked in a chipper voice. "Good, Chloe. Just apologizing for my sister," Dawn nodded her head before leaving Chloe to take her place. "She seems half decent," grunted Chloe. "Dawn's one of my friends, way better than Jade. Plus, she's straight, so we don't have to worry," Chloe smiled as she began to eat her pancakes.

Chloe and i were about to head to our room before the announcement cut in: "All freshmen, please head to the front entrance, find your parents, and bring them to the courtyard." A beep followed, signaling that the announcement was over. "And so it begins," I said nervously, trying to put on a brave face.
