I had been pacing around the room ever since Red and Max had left, my thoughts whirling through me. Red is my happily ever after, and knowing it just made me love her even more. For the next step, I need to get out of here and then get Red out. I continued pacing around when I heard a door open. I didn't look over as I growled, "Max, I swear to God, I don't love you." I was so done with this; I just wanted to go home. "Wow, that's no way to treat your future wife," I heard a familiar voice chuckle. My eyes widened, and I quickly turned around to find Red leaning against the wall with a mischievous grin, which I had missed.
"Red, how did you get here?" I inquired. Red snorted and replied, "It's not as heroic as you might think. If you thought Max was stupid, he's actually ten times dumber. The idiot left the door unlocked." I smiled at her before noticing the dried blood on her face. Concerned, I asked, "Red, what happened?" She shrugged nonchalantly and said, "Nothing much, just a punch to the nose. I've faced far worse, so don't worry." she said it so casually it just made me worry even more. I tried to say something in response, but no words came out. "So, Chlo, do you want to get out of here?" Red asked. I nodded. Red glanced around the room and questioned, "Where are the keys?" I let out a sigh and replied, "They're with Max." As I looked at Red again, I couldn't help but notice a glimmer of pure happiness in her eyes, accompanied by a smirk that sent a shiver down my spine. Cautiously, I asked, "Red... what do you plan on doing?" She responded with a tone that made me grateful not to be on the receiving end, "It's time I introduce my fist to that snake." She paused for a moment before continuing, her voice laced with mischief, "So, here's the plan."
I sat anxiously on the bed, praying that Red wouldn't hurt herself. I felt useless just sitting here while Red was out there, about to get in a fight. I heard the door open before I could call Red's name, revealing Max. 'I'm gonna regret this, aren't I?' I thought before standing up and walking over to the bars. "Hey Max," I said in a soft voice. Max stopped in his tracks. "I'm sorry," I said in a pitiful voice. Max turned to look at me, hope flashing in his eyes. "For what?" he said wearily. I took a breath before starting my lie. "I'm sorry for hurting you, for lying to you," I said softly. "What did you lie to me about?" Max asked eagerly. "I... I lied to you about liking... girls," I said, hating every minute of this. Why couldn't I say something else like anything else? Max's grin grew. "I knew you'd come to your senses," he purred with a wicked grin.
I had a strong sense of what he was about to say even before the words left his mouth. "So, you're my girlfriend now?" he questioned, narrowing his eyes. Pausing momentarily, I caught a glimpse of Red's eyes peering around the desk. She nodded "NO," I stated firmly, raising my voice. Max's eyes widened, a hint of confusion in his expression. "What do you mean, no?" he asked, his tone laced with uncertainty. "No means N.O.," I reiterated, Anger consumed his face as he took a step towards me, clenching his fist. He grabbed the collar of my shirt pulling me to him the bars the only thing keeping us apart. "You ungrateful, worthless piece of trash, I sho-" He never finished his sentence, releasing his grip on my shirt. I heard a deafening cracking sound before Max slumped over. Standing in his place, Red glared down at him with all the hate in the world, her eyes flashing. "NO ONE, under any circumstances, talks to my girl like that," she growled, her fist tightly balled, ready to strike again. "Red... the keys," I cautiously interjected, attempting to divert her attention, and thankfully, she complied. With a swift motion, she snatched the keys from the unconscious Max and unlocked the cell door. Stepping out, Red gives me her hand as I step over Max.
We gazed at each other, neither of us wanting to break the comfortable silence. Then, Red's eyes softened, and she enveloped me in her biggest embrace, to which I responded with an equally big hug. "So, what should we do with you-know-who?" Red asked, nudging Max's head with her shoe. I pondered for a moment. "We could leave him in the cell and inform the authorities of his whereabouts so they can handle him," I suggested thoughtfully. "What do you think will happen to him?" I inquired. "Well, let's see... he kidnapped two princesses for who knows how long. What do you think will happen?" Red replied sarcastically. We both smiled. "Let's get out of this hellhole," Red exclaimed.
