Heroes (Tails x Reader) Book 4

XVII. I wanna be with you Part:1

The First Day:

The first hour or so of working Tails goes over the construction of the arm before stating to take it apart at lightning speed. Watching him work it was clear as day to see that he was used to this, and the time crunch didn't even really matter as he blew through the outer shell to expose the innards before melting a few soldered joints and breaking vein-like wires out of the assembly. Your eyes sparkle with excitement as you watch on, his deft hands performing acrobatics as he tosses his screwdriver up! Spins his wrench! Not even skipping a beat while his tails wagged freely, a big ol' grin on his face.

By the time he's done taking the thing apart it's pretty much midday, sweat having formed on his brow as he flops down into his chair. You follow suit, glancing the space before dragging a second chair over and sitting down beside him.

He leans over toward you a little, just to be a little closer. "Oh! I've been meaning to ask, when did you plan on getting your team for this thing? I assume it's gonna be Team (Y/n) plus Tails, you know?~"

You shake your head, "They won't be involved whatsoever. I can't guarantee that they won't end up getting into something they shouldn't or saying something that would give away our edge.." You sigh a little, "I feel bad but in terms of brains I don't think anyone that's not as smart as you can come along."

He blushes a little, his face telling a story he would prefer not to. "Well I think you're smarter still personally.." His eyes scan over yours, "It's scary going in with just the two of us but I trust you."

You chuckle if only a little, looking back at him. "And I trust you. Besides we already learned with the whole Eggman situation that numbers don't always equal victory." Your eyes widen as your mind traces back over the fight, "By the way, what DID happen to Eggman?"

Tails' eyes drift downward, a clear guilt still in him. "He's unconscious still. I'm pretty sure the doctors are working around the clock to keep him stable but..." a quiet breath escapes his lips. "I feel bad for him.. I was really mad at the time and there was a time where I actually thought 'I could kill him' but... it's not what I want.. Know what I mean..?"

"Well of course," You lean back in the chair, "I never wanted blood on my hands, I've never intentionally killed anyone... I mean I did some pretty nasty things to folks just to get by but it was never my intention to take someone's life." You pause for a moment... "I can recall tidbits of my time within the Chaos, whatever stabbed Eggman was a part of me that wanted to keep you safe and alive. It was a 'him or you' kind of feeling."

Tails nods along, "I figured as much after the fact, seeing as I could also use your Phase ability during that time. But it was still my hand that drove the blade through his chest.. Most of the resistance fighters supported me but I know there's gotta be at least a handful that saw what I did and didn't approve..."

"Well screw them." You cross your arms, "I didn't see them going up there and fighting Eggman one on one with his infinite energy! There's always going to be people like that but you need to know you did good, Tails. We won because of you."

"No, we won because of you." His tone became just a touch calmer, "If you hadn't sacrificed as much as you did after Eggman turned the tables there's no way we would've even began to mount a counter attack."

You tisk your tongue, "Ah, but if you hadn't gone Super everyone would've been wiped out shortly after me."

He raises a finger, "Sure, but if you hadn't been absorbed into the flow of Chaos I would've lost my mind to it without a chance of regaining control!"

You squint your eyes in return, "But I also didn't have a physical body at the time, if we didn't already have a connection to each other then it-" You sigh, your shoulders relaxing. "It was a group effort. There were a lot of pieces that worked together to make our victory happen."
