Charlie's Pov.

I dropped my head and groaned laying it on the desk, ontop of my test paper that had a fat fucking F in the corner marked in red. I peeked over at my classmate as they yawned, they looked at me and laughed shaking their head.

"Dude. You Seriouslyyy need to find a tutor, otherwise you are so gonna lose your internship at the publishing agency. I mean I know it's just a college class, but if it wasn't for our professor, you wouldn't have made it in to begin with..."

I groaned again, my face pushed into the test paper.
I mumbled out an
" I know .. I knowww"
He laughed shaking his head.

"Oh my god" I said lifting my head up fast, I pointed my pen at him.
"I fucking forgot to tell you, Guess who won tickets to the book signing event today? I'm going after class, I'm gonna die oh my god. I can't wait to meet her. I'm so fucking exciteddd. "

He laughed,
"Someone's got his priorities straightened out, you know you should be studying , not reading all those cringe romance books."

I grinned shrugging, not caring.
N. Nelson was my favorite writer ever, and I was so obsessed with every single book she's ever published. I hurried out of class after it was over, practically running to catch the bus, just barely making it in time. My face felt hot as I opened my bag and I stared at my special edition copy I had stood out in line in the rain for a month ago.
I Had to have her sign it, but I might faint first before I can.
I couldn't help my cheeky grin as I hurried off the bus, and over across the street to the bookstore. Excitedly waiting in line outside the store. I tried to peek into the window but it was no use, there were too many decorations and balloons in my vision.

I looked around, noticing all the other fans were abit older than me, and all female?
I looked behind me, assuming I'd atleast see one or two guys but... no.
No I was the only one?
That's odd. I thought for sure she would have an equaled out audience. I shrugged,
Whatever I don't care.
I heard the girls closest to the door enter as the giggled. I raised a brow,
Ohh maybe she's in the LGBTQ+ community, that would make sense. Okay okay, that's super neat.
I grinned excitedly, I couldn't wait to ask her a million questions about the main characters.
I desperately had to know if a sequel was in the works or otherwise I was gonna lose my fucking shit.
I got up close to the door , only 3 people away now.
A curtain was there separating the line from the table. A lady stood outside it with a clipboard.

She came up to me,
"Hello doll, you're here for Nelson's book signing event correct??"
I nodded way too fast as I noticed the next person in front of me disappeared behind the white curtain.
"Y-yes ma'm"

She smiled
"Name?"

"Charlie S-spring?" I said like my name was a damn question and I wasn't sure if I knew the answer to it.
She smiled and checked my name off.
"Perfect perfect, okay just a few minutes and you can go in! Here's a complimentary bookmark for you " she said handing me one.
I almost died as I took it in aw, it was covered in quotes on one side and the book cover art on the other.
I quickly put it inside my book for safe keeping.
I hugged my book to my chest, fixing my back pack over my shoulder. I was a university student but I felt like a fucking school girl while I waited , my heart pounding.

She ushered me to go on in as I thanked her.
I walked up to the white curtain and took a deep breath.
I was practically screaming inside my head, my heart racing.

Okay okay okay
Don't fucking cry in front of her
Or else she'll think your a nutcase

Just be Normal and ask her about the sequel while she signs your book

Do NOT tell her you fucking love her.
I just love her book

Yes, just that, just go in and tell her you love her book! That's what everyone else has been saying right!

I walked in nervously and behind the curtain as I blurted out a nervously loud
"I LOVE YOU"
"I LOVE YOUR BOOK"
I cringed as I looked up, in total shock.
My eyes huge as I made eye contact with the writer, my shoulders dropped.

"Oh , Hello, thank you. I appreciate that." He said waving a hello, a pen between his fingers , ready to sign.
I stared in disbelief as I felt my feet carry me over to the table.
"Y-you ..you're a guy?" I said.
He chuckled as he took my book that I absentmindedly handed over.

He opened it ,
"Yep. I hope that doesn't mean you're disappointed" he said raising a brow as he closed the book after signing it.
I shook my head fast,
"N-no! No ofcourse not!! I love your work so much, c-can I ask if there's going to be a sequel? " I managed out, my face flushed in embarrassment.

He looked at me and chuckled as he nodded silently.
"But That's between us..alright?" He said pointing a finger at me. His honey colored hair and hazel brown eyes stared at me, he wore a dark blue pullover.

I nodded fast, my heart racing as I waved goodbye.
I stopped before leaving and turned on my heal,
"W-wait what's your first name then?!"

He smiled politely as he welcomed in the next person ,
"Nicholas.."

I nodded a thank you and hurried out.

I rushed outside behind the bookstore in the alley way. My heart pounding.
I cleared my throat looking around.
Leaves flew by tumbling around.
The cold air nipped at my face , my scarf blowing in the wind abit.
I sniffled nervously, my hands shaking.

Okay, fucking relax. You're acting like you have a giant crush on him or something.
Jesus Christ be cool.

I opened the book to see what he'd written for me. Praying for something super cool or inspirational.

In black ink, beautifully, yet very passive aggressive and bitterly written, we're the words :

"Judging others makes us blind,

whereas love is illuminating. .."

I hope you have the lantern.
- Truly, N. Nelson

I stared wide eyed , closing it slowly. .
Feeling like he had just slapped me in the face.

It.. it was an accident..
I .. I didn't mean to insult him...

I walked home, skipping the bus as I dragged my feet, stepping and crunching the gold and red leafs..
