ARIZONAS POV
Amelia and I were watching tv when there was a knock on the door.
"Come in!" Amelia and I said. The door opened and it was Derek.
"Can I talk to you guys?" Derek asked.
"Sit in the desk chair," Amelia said and motioned towards the other side of the room. I had my arm around Amelia and gave her shoulder a reassuring squeeze.
"I've been a jerk and I'm sorry," Derek said, "I don't like fighting with you Arizona, honestly, I am fond of you. I think you are good for Amy and you guys seem happy. I know it's not my place to judge, but I've seen Amelia get hurt all the time since we were five years old. I am still that 11 year old inside sometimes trying to protect her. And by protect her I don't mean you're someone bad Arizona, you just have to understand that Amy and I have been through a lot. I've been a jerk and I've been angry and I've taken that out on you guys. I'm sorry. I don't have a problem with your relationship and I want to apologize. No more fighting, I promise." I was kind of stunned. I didn't know if he was ever going to come around.
"The way you treated her isn't right and I want you to know that in the future you treating my girlfriend like that is unacceptable," Amelia said before I could even think of a response. Her standing up for me was hot.
"I know and I'm sorry," Derek said.
"Good," Amelia said.
"And I'm sorry that caused us to miss your birthday dinner but Mer said it was good?" He asked. Amelia nodded and then looked at me.
"I forgive you but don't let it happen again," I said. He nodded and then got up and walked into the other room. I wrapped my arms around Amelia and she giggled.
"My two favorite people are now friends again," Amelia said and kissed my cheek.
"I love you," I said.
"I love you too honey," Amelia said.
-
"Arizona?" I heard a soft voice. I was asleep and I opened my eyes. The alarm clock by my bed read 3am. Huh? I looked over my shoulder and Amelia was lying on her back looking at the ceiling. She was crying.
"Honey did you say something?" I asked and rolled over to face her.
"Did I wake you?" She said and looked at me.
"Don't worry about it, what's going on?" I asked.
"Um," she said. I sat up and flicked the lamp on that was sitting on my nightstand. It was a dim lamp, but just enough light to see Amelia.
"I feel like I can't breathe," Amelia said.
"Okay," I said, I truly didn't know what was happening, "Do you want to sit up?" I noticed her breathing was uneven and her eyes were racing back and forth across the room.
"Honey?" I asked and placed my hand on her arm.
"I'm going to throw up," she said and bolted for the bathroom. I followed her and she started throwing up. I grabbed a hair tie off the counter and pulled her hair back. She began sobbing and I helped her clean up and then wrapped her in a hug.
"I can't breathe," she sobbed, "I-I can't. I don't know."
"Okay, okay I hear you. Why don't you just try to calm down and we can talk? I know you said you can't breathe but why don't we try together?" I asked.
"He died," she said in a soft voice.
"What?" I asked, "Who died?"
"My dad," she cried, "He died. He was working and I don't know I was with Derek and then he died. He got shot. He died." I knew from Derek that their father passed away but I didn't know how. I didn't even know when.
"I'm so sorry honey," I said and rubbed her back, "Do you want to talk about it?"
"I-I I don't know," she said, "I don't know. I just know that he's not here and I want him." My heart broke for her. I wrapped her in a tight hug and kissed her head.
"It's going to be okay sweetheart," I said, "Why don't I go grab you some water and we can talk?"
"Okay," she said.
"Go lay down I'll be right back," I said. She nodded and I waited for her to lay down before leaving. I went straight to Derek and Meredith's door and knocked. I waited a second and then the door opened.
"What?" Derek said half asleep.
"I don't know what's going on with Amelia," I admitted, "I woke up and she was crying and what looked like was a panic attack and she's talking about your dad passing away."
"Shit," he said, "Um, is she still awake?"
"Yeah," I said.
"I'll talk to her," he said.
"Does this happen to her often?" I asked.
"It hasn't in years," he sighed, "Usually happens when she's really stressed. She has these nightmares about that day and it rattles her. It used to happen to her almost every night in elementary school. She had to go to weekly therapy with my mom. I'm - I'm saying too much let's just go help her." I followed him and he opened the door to Amelia and I's bedroom. Amelia was on her laptop and Derek shot me a confused look.
"What's up?" Derek asked.
"I'm reading," Amelia said.
"What are you reading?" Derek asked.
"Research," she said.
"At this hour?" Derek asked.
"Calms me down," Amelia shrugged.
"Do you want to talk?" Derek asked. Amelia shifted her position and looked at him.
"There's nothing to talk about. He's dead," Amelia said.
"You can still talk about it," Derek said.
"This hasn't happened in years," Amelia said quietly.
"I know," Derek said and looked at me, "but we want to help."
"We both care about you," I said softly.
"Can I talk to Arizona alone?" Amelia asked.
"Of course," Derek said and walked back to his room.
