AMELIAS POV
My mom was visiting today. Holy shit I was so nervous. She said she wanted to see Derek and I and that it was so nice that we lived in the same city. I haven't told her I'm dating. I was looking in the mirror and I wanted to throw up. I was wearing a nice dress and I curled my hair. I heard the bedroom door open and it was Arizona. She tossed her work bag down and looked up from her phone.

"Wow," Arizona said, "you look amazing."

"Thanks," I said softly. She walked over to me and wrapped an arm around my waist.

"Gosh you're cute," she said and kissed my cheek, "You doing alright?"

"Yeah," I shrugged.

"Don't lie," Arizona said and pushed a piece of hair behind my ear.

"I want to get it over with," I said.

"I know," she said, "Can I kiss you or will that ruin your lipstick?"

"You can kiss me," I chuckled and leaned in and kissed her. She pulled back and smiled at me.

"What do you want me to wear?" She asked.

"Nothing preferably," I shrugged. She hit my arm and chuckled.

"To meet your mother. What would you like me to wear to meet your mother," Arizona chuckled.

"Whatever you want to wear," I said.

I was sitting at the dinner table with everyone. My mom was here. Luckily she was obsessed with the fact that Meredith has found Maggie and Lexie so that diverted some attention off of me. Arizona was sitting next to me. I could tell she was nervous for the outcome of this conversation but she was trying not to show it.

"So Amelia," my mother said. I looked up from my plate and looked at her. She was sitting next to me and I felt Arizona put her hand on my knee.

"Yeah?" I said.

"Well how is Seattle treating you?" She asked.

"It's good," I said.

"Amy is a really great part of our team at the hospital," Derek said.

"Do you still talk to James?" My mother asked.

"No," I said. I should tell her. I should just spit it out.

"Mom let's not talk about that," Derek said.

"Why? It happened," My mom said.

"It did and it's done," Derek said.

"I'm just saying he was a nice man," my mom said.

"I have a girlfriend," I said quickly. My mom looked up from her drink and looked at me.

"What?" She said.

"Uh," I said, "I have a girlfriend."

"I heard you," she said.

"Okay," I said.

"Why?" She said.

"Why what," I said.

"Why are you dating a girl?" She said.

"Okay why don't we clean up dinner?" Meredith said and started grabbing the used dishes.

"I asked you a question," my mother said and looked at me.

"Mom maybe you guys should have a private conversation about this," Derek said, "and not in front of everyone." I felt Arizona squeeze my hand under the table.

"Amelia Frances are you just going to ignore me?" My mother said. I felt frozen in my seat. I opened my mouth and nothing came out.

"Amelias girlfriend is really nice!" Maggie tried to help.

"I don't care," my mom said.

"I love her. That's why," I said. My mom threw her fork down on the table and walked out of the kitchen.

"Everyone get out of the kitchen," Meredith said. I couldn't even look at Arizona. I felt paralyzed.

"Amelia," Arizona said softly.

"Amelia," Arizona said again.

"I need a minute," I said and got up and followed my mom. I walked out to the back deck and she was sitting on one of the chairs.

"What?" My mom said.

"Sorry I made you mad," I said, "I was nervous and I blurted it out."

"You shouldn't have put me in that position in front of all those people," my mom said.

"I know," I said.

"Is she sitting inside there?" My mom asked.

"Yeah," I said. My mom sighed.

"So you leave james for what? To date a woman?" My mom said.

"I wasn't really planning on dating when I got here it kind of just happened," I said.

"You're not gay," my mom said.

"I don't think you're the judge of that," I said.

"Your brother is okay with this?" My mom said.

"Yeah," I said.

"I can't believe you," she said, "I'm excited to see both of you and now you pull this shit?"

"When have you ever been excited to see me?" I said.

"Can you be single for five seconds? You just left your fiancé and now you're sleeping with your brother's friend? Can you just live without being so desperate?" She said.

"She wanted to meet you," I said.

"That isn't an answer," my mom said, "We're going to enjoy the rest of this visit and you don't have a girlfriend. Do whatever the hell you want when I'm not here, but you're not gay Amelia. I don't want to know who it is and I don't care. You don't love her and that isn't real life. You had a man that wanted you and wanted a family, and you threw that away for what? You're ridiculous. Go back inside and I don't want another word about your girlfriend. Understood?"

"Yeah," I said quietly. I got up and walked inside. I felt like I was going to throw up. Arizona was sitting at the table and her eyes were glued to my mom outside.

"Are you okay?" Arizona asked.

"I don't want to talk about it," I said, "Can we go upstairs?"

"Yeah," Arizona said. We walked upstairs and Derek slipped outside to I guess talk to my mom. I walked into my room and caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. How put together I looked. How hard I tried to impress my mother - who will never be impressed.

"Do you want to take a bath with me?" I asked.

"Sure honey," Arizona said, "let's go." I started the bath and Arizona and I got in. She sat behind me and started massaging my back.

"I'm sorry that happened," Arizona said gently.

"Can we talk about something else?" I asked.

"Sure love, what would you like to talk about?" Arizona said and kissed my shoulder.

"Surgery," I said.

"Wow that's so sexy," Arizona joked and I chuckled.
