AMELIAS POV

I walked downstairs to grab some water and I heard talking in the kitchen.

"You need to leave it alone," Meredith said softly, "She's happy and she was nervous to tell you. You can't act like it isn't a relationship."

"I don't understand why you two are allowing this to happen," My mother said.

"Mom. Amelia is gay. She's not an axe murderer. I think you're being ridiculous," Derek said.

"She's so happy Carolyn," Meredith said.

"Is it the blonde who sat next to her?" my mom asked.

"It's not important," Derek said, "You need to give Amy a break."

"It's not right," my mom said, "You let that girl take advantage of your sister? You know Amelia was probably vulnerable."

"Enough," Meredith said, "You don't know what happened between them and clearly you don't care enough to know the whole story. Everyone who lives in this house respects Amelia's relationship and that needs to include you."

"She's doing it for attention," my mom said.

"Mom you need to cut it out," Derek said, "Amelia's girlfriend is one of our friends and she's very nice. She's good for Amelia."

"Whatever," my mom said and walked into the living room, and spotted me standing there. I froze as she looked at me.

"What you're doing is wrong," my mom said and then walked to the guest room in the basement. I walked into the kitchen and Meredith and Derek were at the table.

"Oh hey," Meredith said.

"Hey," I said.

"She'll come around," Derek said.

"She'd come around if it were you. She'll hate me for the rest of me life because it's me," I said.

ARIZONAS POV

Amelia won't talk about whatever her and her mother spoke about. I'm sure it wasn't good, but she's handling it really well. I fear that she's bottling up her emotions because she doesn't want her mother to see her crying and she's going to break when she leaves. I got up and got dressed for work and Amelia was still asleep. I think her and Derek were going out to brunch with their mom. I walked downstairs to make a cup of coffee before I left and Carolyn was sitting in the kitchen reading the newspaper.

"Good morning," she said.

"Good morning," I said.

"I know it's you," she said.

"Okay," I said and started making coffee.

"My daughter does not need a relationship like this. This isn't a relationship. I don't know what you told her to think that it is, but this is wrong," she said.

"Do you know how stressed she was to tell you? She blurted it out at dinner because she was so stressed all day that she took the day off of work because she was so nervous. She picked out a nice dress to impress you and made sure her hair looked in place. I don't know a lot about you or your relationship with her, but clearly your approval means a lot to her. She worked hard all day pulling herself together to impress you and she deserves recognition for the amazing person that she is. She doesn't deserve whatever religious crap or hatred you're spewing at her. I don't care that you hate me because I'm a woman, but Amelia cares a lot. I don't know why she cares but she does. Probably because she is the nicest person I've ever met and no matter how badly you treat her she will always try to be the nice guy. I have had the absolute pleasure of getting to know your daughter and I am not going to stop because that makes you uncomfortable. I think you need to workout your own issues before you project them onto Amelia," I said. I grabbed my coffee mug and walked out into the living room where Meredith was sitting on the couch.

"Thank you," she said softly as I walked by, "she needed to hear that."
