ARIZONAS POV

I was asking Derek today if I could propose to Amelia. I'm really fucking nervous. I'm so nervous I haven't even looked at rings. I parked in his driveway and sat in the car. I didn't even ask to come over I just did. I'm nervous. He hated me in the beginning what if he says no? What if Amelia says no? I mean she lost Ryan in such a traumatic way I wouldn't blame her for never wanting to get married. I know we talked about it but she has every right to change her mind. I forced myself out of the car and I knocked on the door. Lexie opened it.

"Oh hey!" She smiled, "Come in. What's up?"

"Is uh Derek here?" I asked.

"He's in the basement," she said, "Everything okay?"

"Oh yeah uh everything is fine I just need to talk to him about something," I said.

"Okay," Lexie said, "He's probably down there fixing something or whatever." I nodded and walked down the stairs. I rounded the corner and Derek was working on something.

"Oh hey," he said as he looked up, "What are you doing here?"

"I was wondering if we could talk about something," I said.

"Uh yeah sure. You can go sit on the couch let me put this away," he said.

"What are you working on?" I asked.

"Alex broke the stupid shelf in the bathroom," he said, "I'm trying to make a new one. I just need to cut the wood."

"Gotcha," I nodded and sat down on the couch. He followed and sat down across from me.

"So what's up? My sister finally annoy you?" He joked.

"No," I said.

"Is she in trouble?" He asked.

"No no she's fine," I said nervously, "I uh, I wanted to ask you if I could have your blessing to propose. To her. I want to propose to Amelia."

"I've been waiting for this conversation actually," he said very matter of factly, "Go for it."

"Really?" I said.

"Yeah. Why are you surprised. You live with her," he chuckled, "Why would I be against you guys getting married."

"I don't know," I shrugged.

"Just do me one favor," Derek said.

"Sure," I said.

"Don't get our mother involved in this. Amelia really loves you. I mean really loves you Arizona. I try to protect her but at the end of the day she's my mother too and I'm not perfect. Don't tell her you're going to propose because she will just bite Amelia's head off. I know her and I aren't kids anymore and I can't protect her from everything, and I know you can't either, but at least give it a try?" He said sincerely.

"Of course I will," I said, "You know I'd protect her from anything."

"I know," he said, "Do you have a ring?"

"Uh not yet," I said.

"Well I'm happy for you two," he said.

"Please don't tell her," I chuckled.

"I'm not going to tell her. You can have your little surprise," he laughed, "Now you know this means you have to deal with her forever."

"Nothing more I'd want," I said.

"Really? She's a tad bit annoying," Derek joked and I laughed.

"I see it runs in the family," I said.

"Alright enough before I change my mind," he chuckled.

DEREKS POV

"Derek!" Amelia called after me. I just scrubbed out of surgery and was checking the iPad on my other patients.

"Can I talk to you?" Amelia said.

"Yeah sure," I said.

"Privately?" Amelia said.

"Sure," I said and walked into my office. I closed the door behind her and she started rambling everywhere.

"I really really really want to propose to Arizona but I'm basically a nervous ball every single day of my life and I have absolutely no idea how to do it and I don't know how to ask her parents if it's okay I literally bought a ring before asking her father and what if he says no? Now I just have this expensive ring and I don't know if she wants to get married again I mean she literally married Callie and we talked about it but I mean maybe she doesn't want marriage maybe she just likes what we have now which is fine but I don't know and I mean do I just call her parents and ask if it's okay? I don't know what I'm doing and I feel like I'm going to throw up and I'm so nervous she'll find the ring in our house and holy shit I'm a mess," she said.

"Okay well, first order of business, you bought a ring?" I said.

"Yeah," she said quietly, "I did."

"Well," I said, "I think you should just call her parents and tell them you want to propose. I mean don't they love you? You've stayed at their house multiple times and they have plans to come visit."

"Yeah," Amelia nodded, "Yeah I should call them."

"And Arizona loves you Amy. Don't worry about everything else," I said, "It'll be okay."

"You think so?" She said.

"Amelia. She bought a house with you," I laughed, "The girl clearly loves you."

AMELIAS POV

I dialed Barbara's number and held the phone up to my ear. I felt like I was going to throw up.

"Amelia?" Barbara said, "Everything alright dear?"

"Yeah, uh, hi, yeah everything's okay I was just wondering if we could maybe chat?" I asked. God I was so awkward.

"Oh sure honey," Barbara said, "what's going on."

"I actually wanted to ask you guys a question, I'm not sure if Dan's there," I said.

"He's at work but I'm sure I can answer for both of us," she said.

"Oh okay," I said and took a deep breath, "I was calling because I really would like to propose to Arizona and I bought a ring, and I would like to know what you thought about that." I heard Barbara gasp and I held my breath.

"You bought a ring!" She said happily, "Oh my gosh please please please send Dan and I photos when you propose. Oh Arizona will be so happy."

"I will," I smiled.
