song of the chapter:
JEALOUS ; labrinthIt was early—too early for visitors—and she groaned as she rolled over in bed, tugging the blanket over her head to block out the light streaming through her curtains. The knocking persisted, louder this time, forcing her to acknowledge it.
With a heavy sigh, she threw the blanket off and dragged herself to the door. Her hair was a tangled mess, and her oversized t-shirt hung loosely over her frame, but she didn't care. Whoever was at the door would have to deal with morning Margarita.
She swung open the door, rubbing her eyes as she squinted into the light. Standing there was Sarah, already dressed and ready for the day, her eyes wide with excitement.
"Margarita! You need to get up. We're going out today," Sarah said, practically bouncing on the spot.
Margarita groaned, leaning her head against the doorframe. "Sarah, it's too early. Can't this wait until after coffee or, I don't know, noon?"
"Nope!" Sarah insisted, pushing her way inside and heading straight for the kitchen. "You've been holed up here for way too long, and I've got plans. Big plans."
Margarita followed her with a reluctant sigh. "What kind of plans?"
Sarah shot her a grin over her shoulder. "We're going to the beach. And before you say anything, it's not just any beach. It's that hidden spot Kie told us about. Super secluded, no one ever goes there."
At that, Margarita perked up slightly. A quiet beach sounded... nice. "Fine. But you're making the coffee first."
Sarah chuckled. "Deal."
As Sarah busied herself with the coffee machine, Margarita sat at the kitchen island, pulling her phone toward her. A string of messages from Rafe lit up her screen. The two of them had been spending a lot of time together lately, but today felt like a day for friends. She sent him a quick text, letting him know she'd be out with Sarah.
"Texting your boyfriend already?" Sarah teased, sliding a cup of coffee toward her.
Margarita smirked, taking a sip. "Shut up."
Sarah raised an eyebrow. "Uh-huh."
After they finished their coffee, Sarah dragged Margarita back to her room to get ready. She rummaged through Margarita's closet, tossing out bikinis and summer dresses while Margarita watched in mild amusement.
"You need something cute, but casual," Sarah said as she threw a white sundress at Margarita. "This'll do. And trust me, you'll thank me later."
Margarita chuckled, shaking her head. "Fine, but if this hidden beach is filled with people, you owe me."
With that, the two of them got ready, the day ahead promising a much-needed escape. But little did Margarita know, today would be more than just a simple beach day—it would be a turning point, a step toward reclaiming a piece of herself she hadn't realized she'd lost.
The two girls stretched out on their towels, the sun warming their skin as they let the sound of the waves lull them into a peaceful silence. For the first time in what felt like forever, Margarita felt like she could finally breathe.
Just as she was starting to relax, Sarah's phone buzzed beside her. She glanced at the screen and then back at Margarita. "Looks like the Pogues are heading out to that beach party tonight. You down?"
Margarita hesitated for a moment, but then nodded. "Yeah, why not? It's time I stop hiding."
Sarah grinned. "That's the spirit! Tonight's gonna be fun."
