The warm Italian sun bathed Margarita's skin as she sat on a quiet balcony, her fingers tracing the rim of a wine glass. The bustling streets of Florence hummed below her, filled with laughter, the scent of freshly baked bread, and the gentle sound of Nicholas' voice as he called from inside the apartment, asking about dinner plans.

It had been six months of whirlwind travel—one country to the next—chasing sunsets, discovering hidden cafes, and spending nights in faraway places that seemed like dreams. Nicholas Kastellanos had brought her a sense of peace and excitement she hadn't felt in what seemed like lifetimes. His blonde hair caught the light, and his blue eyes always held a warmth she hadn't realized she needed. Being with him was a breath of fresh air after everything she had left behind.

She leaned back in her chair, gazing at the sky, wondering what adventures lay ahead in the months to come.

Then her phone buzzed.

Margarita glanced at the screen, her brows furrowing at the name that popped up. Talia.

Her sister rarely called, especially not during the late afternoon. An odd feeling settled in her stomach as she swiped to answer.

"Talia?"

There was a pause on the other end, just long enough to tell her something was wrong.

"Margarita..." Talia's voice cracked, and Margarita immediately sat up, gripping the phone tighter. "It's Mom. She's...she's really sick."
