Summary: It's your first day at the BAU and you quickly become friends with the BAU's very own genius, Dr. Spencer Reid.
Warning(s): None :D
---You took a deep breath and opened your eyes to the sight of the BAU building. It was your first day, and you were nervous. You looked at the time and saw that it was nearly 8 AM, so you decided to go in just to get it over with, no matter how early you were. When you walked into the building, agents were walking around, and you were a bit surprised. More people worked here than you realized. You pulled out a piece of paper and looked at where you were supposed to go, which was on floor 6. You walked to the elevator and pressed the button for the doors to open.
"New here?" A friendly voice chirped beside you as you waited for the elevator doors to open. You look next to you and saw a cute and taller male just looking at you with a smile. "Yeah, is it that obvious?" You chuckle and he returned it, "Well, to be fair, I've never seen you before and I pretty much know every face in this building. Yours, I do not recognize."
"I'm Y/n/l/n." You say, holding out your hand to shake his, but frowned when you noticed he didn't. "I'm, uh, a germaphobe. My name is Dr. Spencer Reid." He says, and you were impressed. "Wow, I didn't know they let doctors join the FBI."
"Oh I'm not a medical doctor. I have PhD's in mathematics, engineering, and chemistry. My IQ is 187." He explains, and the elevator doors opened as you two stepped in, as they closed behind you. "So you're pretty much a genius." You were no doubt amazed and impressed by this man. Although you don't have the same IQ, you could tell you two were going to be good friends.
Spencer smiled and nodded, "Yeah. So, what's the story with you? What made you join the BAU?"
"Well, when I was in high school, I became interested in criminology so I began researching and when I was in college, that was my main thing to study, and after college, I started putting applications into different places, including the BAU, which I'm going to be completely honest, I wasn't expecting to get accepted here, but I was so shocked that I did." And now, Spencer was impressed with you. "Well, the director must have been that impressed with you, Y/n. You'll make a great fit. Trust me. Everyone's great."
You blush as the elevator doors opened and you followed Spencer to the BAU room. "Agent Hotchner's office is up the steps and is the first door. I'll introduce you." He says as he puts down his stuff on his desk and you follow him to the unit chief's office. He knocked on the door, hearing a deep 'come in' as he walked in with you. "Hey Hotch, this is new agent Y/n/l/n." Spencer tells him as he nodded your way. Agent Hotchner, though he looked strict as hell, gave you a small and welcoming smile. "Welcome, agent Y/l/n. Please sit. There are things I'll need to go over with you before I introduce you to the rest of the team. Thanks Reid." Hotch dismissed him, and Spencer walked out of the office.
--
After the little meeting with Hotch, which most was spent in silence considering he had to fill out paperwork for you, he led you to the conference room where the rest of the team was. "Agents, this is new agent Y/n/y/l/n. Y/n, these are agents Jareau, Prentiss, Morgan, Rossi, and you've already met Reid, and this is our technical analyst Penelope Garcia. Do we have a case?" He asks, and the others shook their heads. "No, we just like hanging out in here." Emily quipped, making the other chuckles.
Agent Hotchner, or Hotch, stifled a little smile before sitting with the rest of the team. "So Y/n, where are you from?" Derek Morgan asks you, and you tell them where you're from (a/n this all really depends on you)
--
The case wasn't as long as you thought it was going to be, and you sat across from Spencer, who was reading a book. You look at the title, "The Narrative of John Smith. Interesting." You say, and he looks up at you with a warm smile. "It's my favorite book. Have you read it?" You shake your head, and he grinned, excited to finally explain the book to someone.
"Well, it was written in 1883 by this man named Arthur Conan Doyle and it's about a man named John Smith, a 50 year old man confined to bed rest for one week while he recovers from rheumatic gout."You raise your eyebrow, "Rheumatic gout?"
Spencer looked at you amused, "You don't know what that is?" You chuckled, not surprised that Spencer knows. "It's a type of inflammatory arthritis that occurs when the body has too much uric acid, a substance often found in blood. It can affect joints, bursae, tendon sheaths, and kidneys."
You just stared at him in amusement, "Thanks for explaining that to me, Spencer."
"You'll get used to it." You hear Rossi say, making everyone else laugh. You snicker as you put your earbuds in. "What kind of music do you listen to?" Spencer asks, and you shrugged. "All kinds of stuff. 90s music mainly. Backstreet Boys, Nsync, 98 Degrees..." He just looked at you in confusion, clearly unaware of those boy groups. You laugh, "Maybe I should let you hear some songs."
Spencer looked unsure, "I don't know."
"Don't worry, their music is appropriate. Upbeat, but appropriate." You say as you got up and sat next to him, giving him one of the earbuds as you picked a song.
Rossi turned to Hotch, Emily, Derek, and JJ, smiling. "Who wants to bet that they'll be spending a lot of time together going forward?" The others nodded in agreement, just looking over at them.
You had the same thoughts as Rossi, smiling as you chose 'As Long As You Love Me' by the Backstreet Boys and watched Spencer's reaction intently. He didn't seem to hate it. If anything, he found himself bopping to it.
"Do you like it?" You ask him, and he turned to you, nodding. "Yeah, this isn't bad."
"We're going to be great friends." You giggle as you two continued listening to the song.
