Summary: Spencer is sad that his boyfriend, Aaron, is out of town for his birthday. But little does he know, he wouldn't be sad for long.
Warning(s): none :)---
Every year, Spencer gets excited for his birthday, and he was especially excited for this year considering it was his first one with his new boyfriend, Aaron, but Aaron gave him bad news a few days earlier that he was going to be out of town for work during the week, which meant he was going to miss Spencer's birthday, and Spencer lied, saying it was fine, but it really wasn't fine at all. He was sad. He was going to spend his birthday alone.
"Oh cheer up, Spencey, he'll at least call you from wherever he's at." Spencer's mother, Diana, spoke cheerfully on the phone. His mother knew all about his sexuality, even before he did. When Spencer first brought a guy friend home, Diana knew there was something more about their "friendship", so she confronted him about it. At first, Spencer denied it, but he knew deep down his mother was right, and that was when he knew he was gay.
"It won't be the same. I mean, this would've been my first birthday with him." Spencer sighed as he laid on his bed.
"Well, cheer up, buttercup. You'll have plenty of birthdays to spend with him. I truly believe you two will last." She assured him, making Spencer smile a little. "Thanks mom. How's, uh, the home treating you?"
Diana was diagnosed with schizophrenia months ago, showing signs here and there, and when she first began experiencing signs of it, Spencer knew he needed to get her help. "It's going well, I think. Nobody sees me as a freak yet, which is good." She replied with a chuckle, and Spencer chuckled along with her. "Mom, everyone in that home has some mental problems of their own. You will never be a freak to them, just like they will never be a freak to you.""Alright, well, I'm being told to get off the phone now. I'll, uh, talk to you later, Spencey. Happy birthday, sweet boy."
"Bye mom, and thank you." He hung up the phone and sighed. He looked at the picture of him and Aaron when they first started dating, and debated whether or not he should call him. He's in New York, but what if there was a chance Aaron had time to talk?
He said screw it and dialed his boyfriend's number, and waited for him to pick it up. It rang...and rang....and rang until it went straight to voicemail. He scoffed to himself and tossed his phone aside and just laid there on the bed, staring into the ceiling.
Moments later, he began to doze off, and found himself in a peaceful sleep.
---
Aaron had just got out of the taxi, paid the driver and walked up to his boyfriend's front door. He felt bad about missing his call, but he knew if he answered it, he'd ruin the surprise. Spencer usually guesses his location via background noise during their phone calls and usually gets it right. He rang the doorbell, waiting for his love to answer the door. But he didn't. Aaron walked over to the garage area and found his car, so he went around back and walked through the back door, which wasn't locked. He looked around and began walking upstairs to where Spencer was. He walked into his room and smiled at the sight in front of him. Of course, Spencer was sleeping.
He really wanted Spencer to be awake so he could surprise him so he walked over and shook him a little. "Baby, wake up." He whispered, and Spencer squirmed in his sleep, but eventually began to wake up, seeing his boyfriend smile down at him. "Happy birthday, handsome."
"Aaron? What-I thought you were out of town until tomorrow?" Spencer asks, hugging him tightly. "I cut my trip just a little short. I didn't think a phone call or facetime was enough so I decided to come back early." He says, pressing their lips together.
"I'm so glad you did. The only thing I did today was watch tv and call my mom, who's doing good, by the way." Spencer says, sitting up. Aaron smiled at him, "I'm glad. Are you hungry? I'll take you out to eat. My treat for the birthday boy.""Yeah, sure." Spencer says, getting up and looked up at his older beau. "Thank you for coming back."
"I've missed you too much, Spence. I, um, I know we've only been dating a couple of months, but I-I love you." Aaron confessed, and Spencer's eyes widened but he beamed at him, grabbing his face, pressing their lips together again. "I love you too, Aaron."
Aaron smiled as he grabbed his lover's hand as they walked out to enjoy the rest of Spencer's birthday together.---
it's a little shorter than I intended. It was going to be smut at first but I decided to just do fluff :p
