Y/n makes her way to her Transfiguration class, passing by Draco who snickers as she walks. She rolls her eyes, quickening her pace, eventually pushing past Hermione, Ron and Harry. The tension between her and them lingering after the events of the other night.

She walks into Professor McGonagall's classroom, thinking that at least she won't have to sit next to any of the three of them in this class. But as she walks to her usual table, she notices the person she usually sits with is sat with another Gryffindor student. Which leaves her to sit with, "Ugh I have to sit with you today?" Hermione's voice appears from behind her making Y/n snap out of her thoughts.

"Believe me, I'm not thrilled either." Y/n's retort is dry and mundane towards the girl. She takes her seat dropping her books down on the table while Hermione takes a seat next to her.

"Alright class, settle down!" McGonagall's voice echoes through the room with authority, getting the attention of her students. "I will be handing you your scores for the quiz you took a few days ago. I will give you all a few minutes to take in your scores before we begin our lesson." She instructs placing her hands together as she looks amongst her students.

With McGonagall's back turned, Hermione leaned over to Y/n and whispered, "I bet I got a higher score than you did." A confident assertion, peaking the interest of Y/n.

"Oh really? You think so?" Y/n counters, a hint of competitiveness growing inside her once again.

"Yes, really. I definitely did better than you." Hermione responded, the determination in her voice unwavering. Y/n's eyes lock on to hers, a small involuntary chuckle erupting from her lips.

"You're sounding a bit too cocky Granger. I'd hate to knock you down a peg or two." Y/n retorts, her words trying to sound playful more than usual.

Hermione huffs, her own competitiveness mirroring Y/n's. "Oh please! I've worked harder than anyone here, especially you. I doubt you get anything higher than a 60!" Hermione's words mixed with frustration and confidence, came out harsh towards Y/n. She sat up straight, narrowing her eyes as she defended her dedication and effort.

"You act as if you are the only one who has worked hard. But you're right, not everyone is a little perfectionist, know it all." Y/n snaps, not meaning for her words to come out as a jab. She opens her mouth to try and lighten the tone of the conversation when Professor McGonagall walks over, placing their tests in front of them.

Y/n's gaze shifts to the paper now set in front of her. She flips the paper over, seeing the score, "100/100" written at the very top. Her lips form into a triumphant smile, satisfied by her achievement.

Her eyes flickered over to Hermione, who had a proud and smug smirk playing across her lips. She places her paper down, displaying the sight of her score to Y/n. The score "99/100" can be read at the top of her paper.

"So. What did you get?" Hermione's tone curious as she tries to peek over at Y/n's test score. Her eyes scanned the bushy haired girl's face. A sudden urge to lie and make her feel better starts building up inside of Y/n. She parts her lips, ready to lie about her score when Hermione's next snide comment quickly changes her mind. "What was it? A 59/100?"
