"Wingardium Leviosa!" Y/n practices the incantation, delicately moving her wrist with a swish and flick. She sits on the edge of her bed watching as the book she placed on the floor slowly levitates into the air. She drops the book to the floor once again before practicing the spell once more. "Wingardium Leviosa." Y/n swishes and flicks her wand, the book once again rising in the air.

"Y/n!" Amina's voice carries into Y/n's room from downstairs in the living room. Y/n drops the book to the ground in surprise and stands up from her bed. She puts her wand in her back pocket as she walks out of her room towards the stairs.

"Yes mum?" Y/n calls out to her mother looking over the banister into the living room. Amina turns around on the couch and smiles up at Y/n.

"Can you bring me some papers from my room? They should be tucked under my bed in a brown box." Amina explains, trying to paint the picture of where exactly the papers she needs are at.

"Sure mum, I'll go grab them!" Y/n agrees, yelling down to her mother before turning around on her heels hurrying off to Amina's bedroom. She flips the lights on as she enters the room, scanning her mother's room. Y/n makes her way to the bed, getting down on her knees to look under the bed. But all she sees is darkness, she sighs, pulling out her wand from her pocket. "Lumos"

Y/n speaks the incantation, creating a light from the tip of her wand. She lights up the underside of Amina's bed looking around for a brown box. "Ok... hm which one is it?" She mutters, noticing that there are two brown boxes underneath the bed. Y/n shrugs it off and decides to pull both boxes out from under the bed.

Looking at the two, she notices one of them has a lock on the front of it. "Well, I'm guessing it's not this one... Nox" Y/n states, the light once at the top of her wand slowly disappearing. She hums, running her fingers along the lock as curiosity begins growing inside. "I wonder what's inside of this locked one though."

Before she can think too much about it, her mother's voice calls out to her from downstairs. "Did you find it dear!?" Y/n shakes her head putting her wand back in her pocket and quickly pushing the locked box back underneath the bed.

"Yea! I'm coming!" Y/n stands up grabbing onto the box, when she stands up a small picture falls out of the box and onto the floor. "What's this?" Y/n queries to herself reaching down, picking the picture up in her hand. The picture shows her mum and dad with Amina looking very much pregnant with Y/n. Standing next to her parents is another couple, a couple that she finds vaguely familiar. The woman in the couple beside her parents seems to also be pregnant. Y/n turns the photo around to see something written on the back of it.

The Blacks and The Potters. We can't wait for Y/n and Harry to be the best of friends just like us!

"What!? That's... That's Harry's parents!?" Y/n exclaims, her eyes widening in surprise down at the photo. She quickly snaps her attention to her mother who is sitting waiting for her downstairs. Y/n clenches her jaw, needing answers to this new discovery. She walks downstairs, the photo still in hand, ready to confront Amina.

Y/n drops the box down on the coffee table in front of Amina, who smiles gratefully at her. "Oh, thank you dear!"

Y/n takes a deep breath turning to face her mother. "No problem. But uh I found this in the box." She says handing the picture of her parents and Harry's parents to Amina with a serious expression across her face. Amina's eyes widen with panic as she looks down at the photo now in her hands. "Who are they?"

"Just old friends darling! No need to think too much about this." Amina's voice is mixed with nervousness and panic, trying to dismiss Y/n's inquiry.

Y/n clenches her jaw at her mother's dismissive undertone. "Mum. I know who they really are. I read the back of the photo." She mutters, her tone sounding cold and irritated. Amina opens her mouth to object but Y/n snaps back, "I know these are Harry's parents mum!"

Amina quickly shuts her mouth, taken aback by Y/n's sudden outburst. Her face drops, her eyes falling down to the photo looking back when they were all happy. "Why did you lie to me mum? This is how you knew Harry's last name." Y/n's voice comes out shaky, feeling a little hurt by her mothers lie.

"Come here honey." Amina frowns grabbing on to Y/n's arm and pulling her down to sit on the couch next to her. Y/n looks away clenching her fists against her thighs. Amina sighs, wrapping an arm around Y/n's shoulders, "I'm sorry dear... I should have told you it's just... It's complicated."

Y/n turns her face towards her mother, her brows stitched in a furrow of confusion. "What do you mean it's complicated? It just doesn't make sense to lie about this. They were your best friends from what the back of the picture said." Y/n's voice becomes more demanding as the confusion on why Amina lie sets in.

"They were our best friends, your father and Harry's father James especially. We all spent so much time together. We..." Amina's voice trails off as she looks down at the picture, her fingers brushing against the front of it. "We all went to Hogwarts together, and only grew closer even, after we graduated. Then Lilly and I found out we were pregnant around the same time. Your father and James were thrilled, the thought of our kids going to school together and becoming best friends."

Amina continues while Y/n listens intently, noticing her mother's eyes begin to well up with tears as she recalls the memories with Harry's parents. "And then Harry was born. And a month later you came along. The two of you were only able to meet once before..." Amina's voice cracks with emotion, Y/n frowns leaning into her mother's half embrace looking down at the photo. The photo showing how happy her parents were and how happy Harry's parents were.

"It's ok mum. I understand. I just don't like being lied to, especially by my own mother." Y/n looks up at Amina, who is wiping the few tears that escaped away. She turns her gaze down to Y/n and smiles, a hint of sadness in her expression.

"I'm sorry dear. I understand your frustration. But it seems like what we wished for came true." Amina states, causing confusion for Y/n who is looking up at her waiting for her to elaborate on her comment. "You and Harry became friends, even without any prior knowledge of one another."

Y/n shrugs, chuckling softly, "I guess that's true. But that's all, right? There's nothing else you're hiding. It's just that you and Harry's parents were friends?" She queries cautiously, squinting her eyes at Amina still feeling suspicious of her.

Amina hesitates for a moment, her eyes widening as she tries to find the words. She shakes her head, a nervous chuckle following after. "No, no nothing else. Just that. Now why don't you run back upstairs while I start dinner?"

Y/n stares blankly at Amina, not wanting to push any further she nods in response. "Ok mum I will." She stands up hesitating for a second before walking back upstairs into her room. She sighs, shutting her door behind her. Y/n thinks about what Amina said, feeling suspicious about her assurance that there are no more lies. Something about it doesn't sit right, her mind flashing to the locked brown box under her mother's bed. "I wonder..."

"No." Y/n shakes the thought from her head, not wanting to be wrong about what could be in that locked box. She sighs and lays back on her bed, trying to process the new information she learned. But she still can't help but think about what's really locked up in that brown box.
